too much protein in urine

i am joining the coast guard so i took a piss test at meps today and they told me i had too much protein in urine and that i need to drink a lot of water.
what are some foods i can eat that are low in protein. and is there anything more i can do to lower the protein in my piss? thx

How much protein are you consuming? Maybe you're eating too much throughout the day.

well i am taking a break from lifting atm and have not used any protein powder in like 5 months and i gave ben eating crapy so maybe idk 50grms

That's a little odd then. Protein shouldn't sit around in your body for extended periods of time so what you ate 5 months ago should have absolutely no bearing on current protein in your body.

Did they have any suggestions for you? Sounds pretty crappy that they would tell you that you have too much protein in your urine and send you on your way without an explanation.

Your only consuming 50g a day and they're saying they can detect it in your urine? That sounds slightly odd to me, especially seeing that plenty of average people consume way more then that in a day... Either way, drinking a bunch of water is going to be your best bet I guess, but our of curiosity... why does it matter if you have a certain amount of protein in your body? I would think they would be glad because that potentially means your eating things good for your body...

if you have too much protein in your urine you have kidney problems. simple as that. contrary to popular belief, your body doesn't just piss out all the protein it doesn't use. it either gets converted to glucose or fat.

I?m pretty sure you mean creatinine/urea, right?

Because if protein in it?s original form is detected in your urine you?ve got proteinurea, a typical sympton of kidney diseases.

That seems a bit odd that they would say that. Normally all theyll do for the piss test is dip the drug test sample in it. As far as i know they dont "test" for protein, nor should they be able to tell by just looking at it

Trace protein in urine is often a normal finding.

We don't have enough information to tell you exactly what is going on. Though the posts thus far have been very hilarious.

we all have samll amounts of protein in are urine anything past 0.02 is not good. what they want to see is if my kidneys are screwy or if i was just dehydrated. a lot of things can screw the test up

You sure they aren't testing to see what brand of Whey protein you use?

Have they referred you to a nephrologist (kidney specialist) Your protein spillage could be an early detction for kidney disease, That is how my sisters and myself found out. Protein test for sports physical. Dont take it lightly. You should follow up.

naw iam not taking it lightly i have to go back to meps in 2days and have a retest done.

rofl ^. My GF has mad protein in her urine, but she actually has 2 of whatever those tubes are that run out of your kidneys, so...that's why, for her.
