wiki seems correct:

"Marbury v. Madison was the first time the Supreme Court declared something "unconstitutional," and established the concept of judicial review in the U.S. (the idea that courts may oversee and nullify the actions of another branch of government). The landmark decision helped define the "checks and balances" of the American form of government."

wtf i coulda explained this to you if you called me...

basically what you have to know out of this is that its the first time that the supreme court decided that something is unconstitutional...from then on they gave themselves the right to call different laws constitutional/unconstitutional.

Reason why marbury vs. madison was a big deal is before that the judiciary branch was useless...

now its a network of lower courts and all sorts of ****

John Marshall was the chief justice who "invented" or derieved judicial review.
