friend had minor stroke
I found out today that a friend of mine, Gary, had a minor stroke last night. I called him this morning to see if he wanted to shoot some hoops. His gf answered and told me what had happened. So I went and visited him in the hospital. Appartantly this is what happened.. He had started to feel a bit dizzy and a tightness in his throat. When he tried to speak it came out as a "child's voice", as in high pitched and soft. He kept on trying to speak normally but he couldn't. His gf thought he was playing a prank while he tried to convince her that he wasn't... she'd just say "stop speaking like that!", ect. After half an hour she realized and took him to the hospital.
His only other symptoms were a rapid heart beat and feeling of nausea... He's just a normal guy to... 22 years old, works out occasionally, eats decent, not overweight, no pre-existing conditions. His doctor doesn't know why it happened.
Freaky.
Anyway, he has recovered but they're taking him to another hospital for tests or something.

Wow, sorry to hear that man. Life is very fragile, no matter how well you take care of it, anything can happen. Im glad hes doing better, and hopefully he stays that way.

Remember Teddy Bruske, linebacker for the Pats had a stroke almost 2 years ago. He was like 30 or so, but he's still playing.
Your friend is probably young enough that he should make a full recovery. But Im sure they will want to run some tests to make sure there isn't anything else to worry about.

I hope there was no damage to his brain tissue. He is so young that his brain should be able to adapt. It sounds like he had the stroke near his brochas area.

stroke near Broca's area shouldn't cause your speech to increase in pitch but rather your speech is "broken" meaning he's cant get words out that he's trying to say. He would also be unable to write the words as well
They'll prob do lots of tests bc its pretty rare in his age group and they'll want to rule everything out

whatever part of the brain that controls the vocal cords was where the stroke probably was......sounds like the vocal cords tensed up or something involuntarily
would you resident brain surgeons agree?? (serious)

yeh sounds logical.....doesn't necessarily mean the stroke was at that exact location tho.....if its a bleed the blood can irritate surrounding areas
you would need more physical exam or imaging procedures to isolate the stroke
but anyways, its probably not appropriate to be talkin about all that when the OP was just relaying some unfortunate information about a friend. Thankfully they got him to the hospital quick so treatment could be started. Best wishes for your friend
