I had a boxer shepard mix that died from lung cancer back in september. She was only about 6 or 7 years old and holy sh*t was that hard. It happened so suddenly.
The doctor said we wouldn't normally see the symptoms of something like that until its to late because it's a natural survival instinct for animals to hide their weakness/ailments.
After you have and awesome pet like that, companion is the only term you should use to describe them.

I don't think non-pet owners realise that an animal isn't simply a pet... it IS part of the family. The worst thing I have ever had to do in my life is carry my dead cat home in a bag after he got hit and killed by a car. I cried for ****ing days and want to cry just typing this almost 3 years later

Short lived long remembered!
"Because society has pushed them into corners, forcing them to believe they are losers When in fact everyone has so much potential to achieve such magic and wonder, but as I alluded it to they are continually told they cant do it/they'll fail, so they start believing it The truth is: there's no such thing as a "loser" its just a label to make people feel bad"

its so true. non-pet owners cannot even begin to understand what its like. my best friend is like that. He'll express sympathy, but I know he's just like "whatever". His family owns a carpet cleaning business and I think that's why he will never have pets. His loss though

Yeah, a dog or cat will just become one of the family without you even noticing. Although both animals have a totally different way of bonding with you, they are always there when you need them. They don't give advice, they don't judge you, they don't compare situations... they are just there for you

exactly. i would be more upset if my dogs died rather than a friend. as mean as that sounds it's true. i remember a few years back i was coming down the road by my house and i saw one of our cats laying dead on the road. i wasn't particularly close to this cat but i still cried and got her off the road asap and gave her a proper burial.

i've only had my dog for a year but i got him when he was a puppy so i'm so fricken protective over him. i always have such disgusting thoughts that something will happen to him. whenever i let him out in the backyard i always check the back gates to make sure they are closed. sometimes when he's sleeping i'll get paranoid because i don't see him move/breath and i think he's dead and then i have to go and wake him up to make sure. i'm weird.
