Going tanning while on acne medicine?
I just got 2 prescriptions for an acne gel and pill.. I'm going to start using them because I have a wedding in 2 months and unfortunately I have some acne appearing on my chest, back.. not too bad but noticeable and uncomfortable for me. I think its just because of the gym, hormones, getting off BC but anyways... I wanted to start tanning soon but now I'm a little nervous because I hear the tanning beds with the medicine arent good to do? Should I just do a spray tan or has anyone had no problem going while on something? Thanks for the advice!

Most reputable tanning salons will have a list of common medicines that react negativly to tanning on display at the front desk. You could always google the medication or check with your dr. also!

Just a note, tanning clears up my skin perfectly, and my skin isn't the best Maybe try it without the pills.

Thanks for the replies.. my doctor already said its sensitive with the sun UGH.. i kind of still want to go and just see what happens lol.. I understand the tanning beds clear up the acne as well which is great but at the same time I only have 2 months until the wedding so I'm like relying on it to do it's work! But I can't be without tanning in the dress! Have you girls ever spraytanned?

Tanning works very quickly to clear my skin up.. in a week or less. I can't really encourage you to do it though, because of the risks of skin cancer. It's really your personal choice. I've been spray tanned before and it turned out okay, but you need to be very careful where you get it done, because a lot of places send you away looking very orange!

I've been on photosensitive meds before and everyone reacts differently. Some people may not be affected at all, and what I would recommend is start at a very short amount of time in the bed and see how you react; you may just have to go for shorter times. My salon even let me have the "trial" session free when I showed them the bottle.

okay I may end up doing that with the shorter sessions in the tanning bed, thanks so much and great idea!
With the spray tanning.. i know some places you end up orange!! It's annoying isn't it! If i ever do go, I will make sure I ask them a million times if I'm going to look like an orange or not, if that is the case..I won't be going there This place though is a spa and they like clean you before they spray you? haha idk so we will see! But thanks again!

what medicine are you taking exactly?
Tanning on some of them may have you end up with a lot more problems than you started with so dont take it too lightly

dont even think about using a sunbed while taking those two things in combination. Minocycline increases the sensitivity of your skin to UV light, and Epiduo will have a drying effect while further increasing photosensitivity. You might end up with second degree burns after a very short exposure.
Just my advice as a pharmacist.
You could tan very carefully in the sun using a strong sunscreen and for very short periods of time, thats about the only thing.

I use to have bad acne until i use accutane and it cleared everything up. and that was when i was 15 and im now 24 and ever once in a while ill get pimp. The draw back is like once a month you need to get a blood test done to check your liver. Good Luck and stay out of the tanning beds while you on ance meds

Nope, you need to stay out of the beds seriously.

I'd stay out of the tanning bed...
I've had good luck with tanning lotions from the drugstore. The Aveeno gradual tan actually helped any back acne...I was really surprised. I've also used the Loreal brand. It colored faster but didn't have the same affect on the acne that the Aveeno did. Neither of them turned orange and they are cheaper than the spray tan.

Well I know Im not supposed to but I am taking a medication and you are not supposed to tan with but I do. I have been tanning once a week at least for the last couple of weeks.
I know I should stay out of the tanning bed but I just wanted a little color on me and the last time I used lotion...... it didnt workout so well. I dont go for very long in the bed though.

I wouldn't do it... I had a girlfriend who didn't listen to her doctor and now she has pigmentation problems around her lips, they basically burned to a crisp around the edges and the skin is now permanently white/pink (whereas the rest of her face is olive complexion).
Get a professional spray tan where they do it by hand. With 2 months to go I'm sure you can shop around and try a few places out and find someone who does it to your liking.
