    Protein Shake After Cardio??

I always drink a protein shake after my lifting workouts, but I typically don't bother after a cardio workout. I usually jog or use the elliptical. I know we have a nice window of increased protein absorption after a workout, but does it apply to post cardio as well? An educated response would be much appreciated.

Obviously your approach will depend on the session parameters - time, duration, intensity, LISS vs. HIIT, etc.. as well as your goals and nutritonal factors surrounding the session. After could be anything & anywhere from nothing, to a small meal, to just continuing to eat at your normal times.

If I simply do 45 min low intensity cardio such as; jog or eliptical and burn about 450-500 calories will I still get the same protein absorbtion window as I would with high intensity weight lifting.
I really want to know if its worth me using my Pro Complex powder post cardio that has 60 grams of protein or if I should use a lower grade lower protein content powder post cardio because I will not have the same absorbtion window. I am under the asumption the body can only absorb so much protein on a regular basis, but post weight training we have a capacity to absorb much more. I want to know if the window would be there after one of my typical cardio workouts?

I've wondered the same thing. I play a lot of racquetball but don't usually drink a shake afterward. I wonder if I should since I do use my leg muscles a lot and it is a somewhat anaerobic activity. Granted it wouldn't be bad to drink a shake (is it ever?), but would it be as beneficial as drinking one after a lifting session?

imho, a hard session of cardio is as tough on the muscles as a lifting session, so the same treatment should be given to both... post w/o carbs and protein

if you're running/biking/swimming to your max, you don't think you're tearing muscle fibers?

Protein and carbs will DEFINITELY aid in recovery if you are exercising long enough - be it a drink or meal.

This is lazy cardio we're talking about here. Eat a meal or drink it. You don't need to dump 60 grams of protein down your throat.

Good post. I plan on doing 30-40 minutes of LISS tonight. I will probably have a meal 30 minutes afterward.

    Exclamation rhizome

The post says an educated response...does it not? I wanted to know if my cardio session would benifit from a high protein shake. Instead you read post and tell me my cardio is wack. Forgive me if between weight days I do cardio at a low intensity. Fu cK bag. Maybe you should troll somewhere else.

I agree about taking the protein afterwards as well. I don't think I would use the ON Pro Complex for it unless maybe you just used one scoop instead of two. I think the whole 60 gram serving would not reap extra benefit. 30g would be decent or maybe use there 100% whey product and save yourself some money
