Should I fix my overbite and get a chiseled jaw?
I have overbite which pushes my entire jaw into my neck. If I fix my overbite I would get a super chiseled jaw (even though its pretty defined right now, the difference would be like 3mm in every direction, creating a lot more definition).
To get it fixed I would have to cash out $$$ and have to wear a helmet and braces (not for teeth, just the jaw, so they are not real visible) for a year or so.
I'm 21 and I'm just not sure...
EDIT: I can hold my bite properly but it requires effort and I'm afraid my jaw muscles are going to get overused and cause headaches.

If you're gonna do it, remember not to be a smartass before that **** heals. Otherwise you're gonna get cracked in the jaw and get your jaw broken bad, which means hospital bills to get that **** sorted out and then more hospital bills to get that **** fixed.

Don't they have to break your jaw and reset it? Or am I thinking of something else?

Woah! No... You just wear braces and helmet at night for a year or two.
-
U mad?
If it bothers you enough, go for for it. You'll come out with a lot more self-confidence after it all.

lol, that'd suck ass. helmets?
but the guy's right. they do break people's jaws and adjust it every so often if someone's overbite is severe enough (it's called distraction osteogenesis).

My cousin had that done..they broke her jaw and wired it shut until it healed..it made a huge difference in her profile..she looks very different now..a good different though! She used to get severe headaches because her jaws were misaligned, so for her the benefits outweighed the pain and discomfort (they sent her home with a lot of pain meds..so the time her jaw was wired shut is a blur to her anyways).
I say go for it if it will make you feel better/more confident. It may also reduce headaches.

See...its not like that. I have 0 issues with my current jaw. It would be a purely cosmetic procedure that would make me look better. It would just shift my jaw forward a bit (I think about 3mm).
No way in hell I am doing surgery for this though.

Did they reset your jaw or did you just wear a helmet?

You dont have to wear a brace and **** brah.. When I was in 6th grade I had a little over bite, I had to wear a retainer, I think it was called twin block, something like that for around a year.

NO jaw reset....I just had to wear a head gear..helmet maybe..basically a strap that goes behind your head. It clips into a retainer type of thing. I dunno it worked well for me. But i was alot younger.

Hey new picture, very nice!
Ya I can't picture what exactly you're talking bout OP haha, but IMO I would do it at a time where you've got a break coming up, like at the start of summer? As much as that would suck, you wouldn't hafta walk around campus being all self-conscious

I have an overbite and it alters my jawline. It makes my jaw look weak or something. Damn too much miscing makes me self conscious about it, but I don't have a really strong jaw to begin with.
I don't think I could justify the cost for the surgery nor does it drastically alter my looks. Maybe I am just being self conscious.

At your age braces alone wont do what you describe. Go to your dentist- get all regulaer needs done, go to your orthodontist get things aligned, then go to your oral surgeon and get it done. You will feel so good about your self when it is completed. Yes, it will cost, but this is an investment in yourself. Unfortunately, we live in a world where estheics open doors, and personality comes in second. It will help in all areas of your life, I have seen many of these cases and never heard one person regret their decision to do it, but have several regret not doing it.

I got Jaw surgery and they fixed my overbite at 17...it was the worst 5 months after of my life....i lost ALL confidence becaus ei ha dlost so much weight from lack of eating and my face was so puffed and i looked completely different. BUT, i am now thankful i got the surgery. I have a much more defined jaw and its more comfortable when sleeping/eating.

Lol, nothing wrong with ur face mate (srs, no homo)
I'f you are really concerned you can get clear retainers or other removable plates to fix an overbite, its really quite easy.
Its harder to fix an underbite

diff. animal, same beast
I have a slight overbite. The dentist told me it was actually very common and not a big deal. I guess it depends on how bad your overbite is.

No that's for an underbite.

Try this. I've been doing it for a few years now.
You should start sticking your chin out more and see how that works for you. Not drastically, but just a tad bit out. A lot of people do it. It gets to the point where it actually starts to feel as your natural jaw position because you get used to it, and you'll start doing it without even thinking. You can relax it when you sleep obviously. At first you will look a little tense, but once you get used to it, you'll look and feel absolutely normal because the rest of your face/body will not react to it. You'll actually be able to talk with it stuck out, clearly and without looking like a goof ball.

I know its fine but I think I'd look more alpha with a more portruded lower jaw so my face will look less like a baby and more ALPHA! I have a knack for thinking about **** other people don't think about.

Oh it''ll definitely make you look tougher.
