Out of action again...
To all the regulators that know me here....I got hurt in Afghanistan again. This time it was non combat related. I was home for R&R over Christmas and headed back to Afghan after the new year. Once I got back over there, I woke up one morning and could not walk due to extreme pain in my calf. Went to the doc and it turns out that I have a 10 to 12 inch blood clot in my right leg. They medevac'd me out of Afghan to Germany then home to Ft Lewis. I am looking at 6 to 10 months of treatment before I can return to duty. They are treating me with blood thinner and I am not allowed to do to much as they are afraid it might break off and go to my heart or lungs and possibly kill me. Guess I am going to get a lot of rest for the next few months.

That really sucks. Blood clots are not something to mess with. Keep us up to date. Once you're cleared to train again you'll be back. Over on FI spytech had a blood clot in his leg as well and swelled it up big time. Pretty bad shape for a while and he's hitting PRs again. Good luck.

thanks bro....my leg is still pretty swolen right now and it still hurts like a bitch. Never would have thought at age 38 I would be side lined by a blood clot.

I had a 6" blod clot in my subclavian vein. They are probably going to tell you they want you to take the blood thinners for another 6 months after the clot is resolved, then they are going to say "we'll let's take them for another year just to be safe" then before you know it the doc is gonna tell you that taking them for the rest of your life is probably gonna be necessary like you don't have a choice or something.
Any way, sorry I'm rambling the point I am trying to make is that blood thinners will damage your liver and I stopped taking mine 6 months after the clot was removed. Coumadin was what I was taking (it used to be used as rat poison)

if you walk with clots in your calves, they can potentially travel to your lungs
happened at the hospital where my uncle was doing his residency, dumbass doctor told guy with clots in his calves to walk to the ER, guy died on the way
true story
edit: heres to hoping you have doctors who know what they are doing, and dont put you on blood thinners for ****ing ever

Nah...I think on this one, I will listen to the doc's. I would rather rest to lift another day than to lift today and die tomorrow!

They are not 100% sure how it happened. They said that a 10 clot does not for over night so it was probably forming over years. I had an 18 hour flight from Seattle to Afghanistan and all that sitting on the plane was probably the last straw.

oh ....i'm just paraniod now that something like this could happen to me! So sitting ofr long peroids of time can contribute to their formation? (your 18 hour flight for example)

So they say... I pretty much slept most of the flight and they say when you sit for long periods of time, blood pools in your legs which can contribute to a blood clot.
