A trainer should always document their clients' progress; a HR monitor enables a regular display of their condition during various activities, and the subsequent changes that take place over time. The use of HR monitors is particularly important while training clients with pre-existing conditions and they should not be dismissed as "unimportant" pieces of equipment, as they can be of great benefit to the trainer and a protection to said clients.

Generally only when doing a monthly assessment or if I decide I really need to keep an eye on the clients HR. Its not a normal thing though.
You simply cannot out train bad nutrition.
The gym is my place of work, keep the socialising for the playground you are here to work too.
