How long to grow out short hair?!

How many ladies have grown out super short hair ... and how long did it take you?

I'm trying to turn a razored pixie cut (that I've had for 5 years) into a chin-length bob. I heard hair grows 1/2 inch per month ...

I'm in the funny in-between stage and I'm sooooo tempted to chop it all off since I don't even know if it will look good on me. I'm even having dreams of shaving my head lol!

I can so relate to this as I had the same pixie cut and absolutely loved it! I grew my hair out, when I was preggo, and it took me about 6 to 8 months to grow it to chin length. Growing it out sucked, but once it was grown out I had so much more diversity with my style.

You will be tempted to chop it of, b/c the pixie cut is so easy and so cute, but if you want it longer...you have to stick it out through some serious bad hair days!

I used to have those dreams as well.

I don't know what to do about wanting to cut it short again midway through but to help it grow faster you can take a biotin and silica/horsetail (plant extract) supplement. Those two supps helped me grow my hair out faster.

My wife has always had short hair she tried a few times to grow it out but got to that awkward stage and always cut it. She has been letting it go for almost two years now and has more than shoulder length now.

Wow thanks so much - at least I'm not the only one with hair-chopping dreams. And while I love this cut, I wanted to be able to do more with it, like you mentioned. Lately I've just been going bonkers and it ITCHES on my neck and ears .... not used to having hair there anymore lol!

Gah! Growing out hair seems to take sooo long. Biotin is definitely supposed to help speed up growth.

Also, when you're shampooing, try to massage your scalp for a minute or two. The extra circulation is supposed to stimulate
    growth as well.

I think you're right about the 1/2" per month average. That's what they taught us in Cosmetology school.

You could try playing with it. Try and find cool new ways to do your hair..?
Or you could focus on the health aspect of it. Do deep conditionings etc
Or look at cool pictures of what you want your hair to look like to keep motivation going (what I do for fitness lol works great!)

I started from long, wanting to go super long lol - and yeah, it feels like FOREVER! I'm almost to my goal but I have to get a trim - stupid split ends *grumbles*

I just went through the try and grow it out phase, I quit after 2 months, I looked like a mess and the greys were awful.
My stylist told me 6 to 8 months to take my pixie to a chin length bob but I couldn't handle it.
It felt good to cut it back to short.
    Good luck.

    Good luck, it's very tedious!

At the end of February I had a shaved head, now the hair at the base of my skull is down to my shoulders but the hair above my forehead gets to just below my cheekbones. Another year and it'll be all long enough to get cut properly!

Persevere! I know how annoying the inbetween stage is but I think of how I'll be able to go out without messing with my hair for ages to make it look presentable!

I had to just not think about it. "A watched pot never boils."
I didn't even get it trimmed for 6 months; I like the messy/carefree look.

I've had every hair disaster you can have and this I know you need to take prenatal vitamins or a good multi vitamin and live through some very awkward lengths...Also find a hair stylist who will really listen and not chop too much off...(you will need to get trims a lot due to the layers being grown out unless you just bob it at a certain length). It takes almost a good year to get to the top of your shoulders but once you get it there you will be home free....

It does depend how long you want it. I cut my hair once into a Chinese bob (never again) and it took nearly a year to get back to the length I like it now (just below my shoulders) and my hair grows fast.

I second the Biotin. I have a friend who takes it (you can get it at Wal-Mart) and she says her hair grows an inch a month! Don't give up!

When mine was short, the hardest part was getting it to grow past my ears. I hated having it half way down. I kept it cut really short at my neck while I let the front grow out first. Clips and palmade seemed to help. I would agree with the 6-8 months. Mine's grown from just under my ear to my armpit in about 2 years.

You could just get some clip in natural hair extensions. I love mine. I purchased them from a local beauty supply store for $59 and you can even color them.

Picked up biotin today - I already take a B Complex and a good multi ... it's already over my ears in a month so I think my hair grows a lil fast naturally!

Seriously? Do they look natural, do you think? I've always had long hair and got an inverted bob a couple months ago which looks good, but it's been driving me crazy at the gym (can't keep it back and out of my face) so I'm trying to grow my hair back. In the process, it's now longer and needs a trim or hidden to look good. How long is your hair?

I don't think stocking up on all of these hair growth vitamins really work. I don't think your hair will grow any faster as long as you are already getting all the vitamins/minerals you normally need.
One thing I have heard that work for some is - Monistat. Lol no really. I guess many people have a fungi on their scalp that limits their growth and when they apply it to their scalp their hair grows better..? I haven't delved too much into the thread, but I have considered it myself as it seems like my hair crawls along

And I would suggest looking around those forums as well. Many of the members there know a great deal about hair and hair care. They're all about growing out hair long or just long hair in general but they are awesome there! You should be able to lurk in most of the main parts - some parts are secured for users only though because of a lot of long hair f*tish ppl problems in the past. Anyway, plenty of tips and information =]

I have a friend that got some after a stylist screwed up and cut her hair quite short. They look good on her however she has black hair, I think it depends on the colour of your hair and how complex/varied it is. It's possible to get pretty close for most, I kind of have an odd colour with plenty of different colours and I've tried to get close but I think you can tell.. =\ (I wanted fake bangs)
