Cost for a Personal Trainer?
I'm looking to hire a personal trainer here in the San Joaquin Valley, California. I have a particular trainer in mind, but want to have done my research first before I start to negotiate. The services included would be nutrition analysis, and both supervised workout sessions and solo workout plans. I'm athletic, and have been told by this trainer that he could have me at goal weight (135) in 5 months. I'm aiming to compete in 2010 for a Figure Comp. What is a reasonable cost range for all of this, keeping in mind I live in California?

You around Hanford, Lemoore area?
I'm not sure how big or small the fitness market is, in that area. Why don't you ask the trainer what his rates are?
Usually the more you invest in, the cheaper it is for you.
What i would do is ask him " Do you have a portfolio?"
If he doesn't have one, then i would not hire him. Trainers can talk up a good game to get a new client.
You want to see his work, not just hear what he says.
Actions speak louder than words
You're investing money into your health. I'm sure you just don't want to throw money away?

portfolios mean jack ****, i can make one in about a day and you wont know whether its real or not.
Best thing is to look at what the trainer does with his/her clients, perhaps observe him/her training one. Most of the time you will be able to see whether a trainer is serious or not by that alone.
Try talking to his/her clients and get feedback from them also. But that might not be accurate because if a client is not serious, even the best trainer in the world will not be able to do anything with them.

He used to compete in BB competitions. I have also trained with him a handful of times. He owns his own P.T. business and operates out of a local gym as a contractor. He knows his stuff. I'm not afraid to ask him what his rates are, but I want to be in a better position to negotiate a better rate. I know he charges a lot. What exactly... I can't recall.

well then at least you know its a PT that you will be comfortable with.
If i were you Id just talk to him and explain your situation, as a PT myself i would be open to discussion regarding prices, if someone just talked to me about it.
After all having a client is better than not having one right?

True dat I know he's the real deal, and I want to get to that next level, and think he is the key.
Hey V...this may sound like a dumb question but...is this going to be a common theme (monetary investment) in taking on this goal of Figure Competitions? One would think: eat right, wieght train and results should follow. However, I'm not an expert in this science. So am I going to have to pay everytime I need the tools to reap benefit?! Essentially...this could be a very expensive venture...true or not?

So if someone uses steroids, that's enough to convince a potential client? You sound like everyone wants to be the next mr. olympia? Some people just want to be generally fit and healthy, and not all about muscle.

Killing too many brain cells!
If i have a portfolio, with my clients in it with contact info, and some of those clients are still in progress, which are in my portfolio, and i am still training them, it must be jack **** right?

not at all, really just one time might be sufficient, because you will learn what your body responds to and what it doesnt respond to, which will allow you to find out what exactly works, so you will be able to construct your own training and diet plan going into your next competition, so a trainer will be redundant at that phase.

the hell?
are you ****ing stupid, where did i mention anything of this sort?
Does getting a client where he/she wants to be involve taking gear now? What the fuk does it have to do with what i said
And if youre putting your clients personal info in your portfolio for everyone to see i dont really have anything to say to you anymore.
P.S. Im really getting fukking irritated with those comments now... and i can see why youre in the red.

Did i offend you? I am very sorry
Yes my portfolio has pictures before, current, and after of all my clients, with their contact info (ok'd by them, and signed). This alone has gotten me many clients.
You must not have one, so don't hate. I suggest you start on one! Business is so much easier
