I started lifting about a month ago. My routine is pretty much drinking a pre-workout supplement, working out, then having a protein shake.
I then come on here and see people posting pictures of their supplement stash and am surprised at the amount of stuff you guys are taking. I have no idea what they are, when to take them, and I want to learn.
This brings me to the question; I know creatine and pre-workout supplements are different things, but can you take them both at the same time, if so, do you take them both before a workout?
P.S Also can someone explain this whey powder stuff to me.

Well the one other thing about whey is that it is absorbed into your body really quickly, so its best in the morning when you want to get out of a catabolic state, and after a workout when your muscles are thirsty for nutrients. Casein is a different kind of protein you may see, this one is very slow absorbing, so its good for nighttime so your body can have a slow, continuous stream of nutrients, and avoid a catabolic state altogether. And a catabolic state is when your body begins to break down muscle tissue for energy while you sleep.

I believe whey is a byproduct of makiing cheese and they used to throw it away......or if yuo open yogurt and see what looks like water on top that is whey. It's fast digesting protein, perfect to take after a workout as it gets to your muscles preventing catobolism and helpign you grow

I take Primal NO2. So if I go out and buy some creatine monohydrate, I could put a scoop or something in with the 2 scoops of Primal NO2 that I drink before every workout?
I have just normal protein powder that I take after which says nothing about "Whey" on it. Do you guys suggest I buy this Whey stuff as well for post-workout? Would Whey and Protein be alright to take together?
BTW I'm not just relying on supplements either. I also eat a fair bit of food, but the only problem with my diet is I have no idea how many calories and that type of **** I should be eating. But I do make sure I eat lots of eggs, chicken, red meat, tuna, milk and rice. etc.

whey is protein, get a good hydrolyzed whey protein like dymatize elite
if you wanna cut fat get a whey, that has next to no carbs and fat, i go for optimum nutrition gold standard whey(has added bcaas which are amino acids that convert to protein)
- if you wanna bulk get a weight gainer like optimum nutritions pro complex
-with your creatine i suggest taking 5 grams a day
-typical diet for bb'ing should be 6-7 smaller meals a day i.e mine:
morning -protein shake, 8 egg whites, cup of dry oats, apple
morning snack- handful of almonds with an apple
lunch- 500g steak or palm sized fish/tuna with lots of vegies and some brown rice
pre-workout- brown rice and ceyenne pepper and shake with creatine(2.5 grams)
post workout- shake and creatine(2.5 grams)
afternoon snack- granola bar and apple, green tea
dinner- 200g chicken vegies and a medium sized potato
before bed- 250 g cottage cheese and handful almondsLast edited by IronAscension; 01-14-2009 at 08:43 PM.
