Bigger "choke artist" in the playoffs...Peyton Manning of Donovan McNabb (serious)

    Serious discussion..

Sweet Touch likes to point out how much Peyton "chokes" in the post-season and that he is the biggest choke artist of them all.

However...the competition is close. McNabb has been to 4 NFC Championship games and one Superbowl. A SB in which he threw 3 picks and aided in his teams loss. With his 5th trip this weekend, McNabb could become the first quarterback ever to make it to 5 NFC Championship games and not win a Superbowl.

    That said...here are some stats.

    Donovan McNabb postseason record - 9 - 5 (14 games)
    Peyton Manning postseason record - 7 - 8 (15 games)

In Peyton's 8 losses in the post season

    173 of 323 for 2035 yards 53% 7 TDs and 9 INTs

In McNabb's 5 losses in the post season

    104 of 193 for 1052 yards 53% 5 TDs and 9 INTs

    overall post season stats..

    Peyton - 348 of 565 for 4207 yards 22 TDs 17 INTs 61.6% 84.9 passer rating

    McNabb - 294 of 493 for 3147 yards 20 TDs 15 INTs 59.6% 79.2 passer rating

who could be considered the bigger "choker" and why?

It's close, but I'd go with Peyton by a hair.

4 of McNabb's 5 playoff losses have come in the NFCCG or Super Bowl. He doesn't usually get the job done in those games, but he always gets them there.

Peyton's Colts go One and Dungy quite often.

not gonna jump to any conclusions but peyton pretty much always had a better offense to help his playoff numbers. buuuut you can also argue he had to go against tougher defenses like ravens, steelers, and pats. while both QBs got to the SB once.....Manning actually won although the colts D was the mvp of that playoff run. just things to consider. i dont wanna call em both choke artists because are are both good QBs.

Not to mention, McNabb's postseason winning percentage is a respectable .643, probably better than any current QB not named Tom Brady. (Let's wait until Joe Flacco plays 3 postseason games before involving him in this conversation)

    Manning's is .467...just sayin.

true but mcnabb also lost in 2004 with T.O. Stallworth and Westbrook
keep in mind though, peyton plays indoors more, mcnabb plays outdoors more so the stats are going to obviously be more favorable to peyton
Tom Brady wishes he was half as talented and a quarter as good looking as Aaron Rodgers.

Actually, that data supports McNabb showing more of a choke. If you lose early in the playoffs, that's just getting beat. If you get all the way to the end, but well, choke, that's well, a choke.

BTW, Peyton has won a SB. That tends to take away most of the arguement against him.

not just getting beat. many times the colts were the favored so they essentially got upset which is worse than getting beat. and if youre constantly letting lesser teams upset you in the playoffs that doesnt look good. just another way to look at it.

thats one big reason why it gets sketchy to me.

peyton had the luxurory of playing in 70degree weather probably more often than mcnabb did.

peyton manning. chokes in the big games far too often. even with standout wide recievers like harrison and wayne. the one time mcnabb had decent recievers he went to the superbowl and made a nfl record of over 30 tds and under 10 ints...this is a defineing moment this weekend for nabb.

    Manning 1 SB
    McNabb 0 SB

Yes a Super Bowl validates your career when you play QB. You only have to win 1 and McNabb hasn't proven he can do that yet.
The answer is to never be full of sh!t

    trent dilfer > mcnabb ?

ben roth = peyton manning ?

i see what you are saying but mcnabb had to go against the same pats that usually killed peyton while peyton got to play the bears no offense. and manning wasnt even the star of that playoffs. the colts D came out of nowhere to play the best they maybe ever have. if they dont step up manning has to play out of his mind for them to win. but yes peyton does have and 1 and so does eli so i cant really call em true chokers.

Yes a Super Bowl validates your career when you play QB. You only have to win 1 and McNabb hasn't proven he can do that yet.

McNabb is always aided by that strong defense of the Eagles while on the other hand Peyton doesn't have that luxury.

Not only that the quality of the teams in the NFC is no where close to the quality that Peyton has played against in the AFC.

peyton has also failed in those rounds....i dont see why youre only looking at mcnabbs failures. and would you rather have a qb who will lose in the nfc championship game often...or one who is usually favored to go deep in the playoffs and gets bounced out earlier than the afc champ game. you can look at it from 2 sides. one always gets far but never far enough. one is supposed to get far but most of the time doesnt.
well thats that. i dont wanna sound like im picking sides cuz im not. im just trying to make points for both sides.

To Mcnabb's credit 2 of those 3 teams he lost to ended up going on to win the superbowl (Tampa Bay, St. Louis). And Carolina was pretty damn close.

But yea he did have an easy ride during the 2004-2005 playoffs.

and your points are good ones.

im not trying to pick sides either. just aiding in the conversation.

the one thing that gets me about McNabb is he has as many INTs as Manning has, in 3 less loses.

to me, that shows that McNabb tends to choke a little more when the game is on him.

sure he didnt have the receivers Peyton had, but even when he had TO...he threw 3 picks in the SB.

    either way, its very close.

Peyton Manning didn't choke this year. He was about the only player who showed up to play along with Freeney and Mathis. He had a great game with the exception of people like Gijon Robinson blowing their assignments and receivers dropping balls; Gijon, Wayne, and Gonzalez
