Good day all.....
I have a different brand of creatine and it states to take 2 scoops 30-60 minutes prior to workout....I noticed this after buying it and of course I don't have the brand name stored in a neuron yet..
I usually eat some cottage cheese and a banana (and a cup of black coffee) about about 30 minutes prior to workout.
So, my question: should I take the creatine before I eat or does it really matter as far as efficacy of taking it before eating or after?
I've always taken 1 scoop just after workout before the protein shake.
I even thought about continuing this method but decided to get an opinion here.
I'm not trying to split hairs here but this is the first time I seen it recommended to take prior to workout.
Any education on this is appreciated.
DOMS to all....

Wayne, no big deal either way, but it's usually best to take a lot (but not all) of the supps we use on an empty stomach. I'm guessing it's CEE, which you didn't state? Anyway, I'd take 40mins before w/o and then eat your normal pre-workout meal 10mins later. No sweat.

Ok....I needed a second opinion and your suggestion sounds logical for absorption reasons.
Like I say, I'm so used to taking post w/o then I read the this label I figured I may need to re-think my food intake time.
Mierda...the 'CEE' acronym escapes me at the moment so I'm not sure until I get home about 2:30.
I thought is was all called 'monohydrate' or something of that nature.
Thanks for the response.

Creatine Ethyl Ester (CEE) basically has a different "delivery" method, if you will, than creatine mono. Mono turns to creatinine fairly quickly once added to liquid, and the delivery of mono isn't as efficient as CEE. That doesn't make it inferior however. It just means that you might need 7g-8g to actually get 5g in your system. As an example, L-glutamine is much worse, as approx 75%-80% is lost in your gut before reaching your system.
Many people seem to struggle with the food intake/timing aspect when they start getting into supps, and creatine is usually first on the list . I mix my CEE into my pre-w/o NO drink about 30 - 40 minutes before and then mix some into my post w/o whey shake afterwards. Then I eat. But I w/o at 5am and am not able to eat before my w/o.

Hey....
Well...the stuff I have is 'ON (optimumnutrition.com) Pre-load Creatine Complex'
I had to pick up some protein/glutamine today and the EAS price of creatine was $45 dollars and less goods in the container.
That 1/2 of C note...jeez.
This stuff was 25 bucks or so.
There is no reference to 'CEE' on the container.
Oh yes...I will 'keep on rockin'...ha.
Nunyas and Guiness42....thanks for chiming in with your input...it's all good to me.

some folks who use monhydrate take it with dextrose (smartys is popular) to speed the absorption of the ceatine,
I prefer CEE because you dont have to trick your body into absorbing it faster,
Some folks will tell you the CEE does nothing, though I have yet to see someone who isn't selling a competing type of creatine say that.

The thing is, Jonathan, that apparently more people do not respond to CEE, as opposed to approx 25% not responding to mono. But beside, anyone who says creatine "does nothing" as a general statement outside their own experience with it, is an idiot .
But I'm glad you brought the thread back up. I was waiting for permission from someone who had PMd me earlier, but haven't heard back. Anyway, keeping him anonymous as was the plan:
Anybody out there who isn't sure about how much of a supp they're taking should openly ask for clarification. If not, then research the supplement you're taking. In this case, this member was taking tablespoons of CEE before, after, and then later in the day. I'm guessing that the amount he was ingesting daily was at least 15g of CEE per day, and probably more than that. Not good. Not good at all! He had simply switched from mono and didn't think about the dosing being different.
And before anyone calls him a dumbass, this guy is fairly quiet, yet respected member here. And from reading all the other clusterf'ck threads about creatine, and seeing such unbelievably clueless statements made, I can imagine that there are thousands of others on this site who are using a supp and not even close in what they're dosing. And doing it unknowingly.
Anyway, the point is; if you have a question, just ask it. Don't be embarrassed. Someone here should be able to adequately address your concern. This goes for any other common, non AAS supplement. It's been a long time since I've read up on any of this stuff, but you can bet your ass that I read a whole lot of stuff before I started taking any supps a few years ago.
I even recently shared a "Duh!" moment I had with something as simple as powdered caffeine last week or so . Of course, I knew I was guesstimating the dosage and wasn't worried becaue I use so much, but day-um..... I could have jump started my car with what I ingested. Why? Because I couldn't find the scoop that came with my new little bag of energy. And when I found it the next day, I realized I'd probably taken between 800mg and 1000mg . I'm so desensitized, so it only made me feel "very wrong", but 5yrs ago I probably would have wanted to go to a hospital!
Just sayin'.....we all learn from mistakes. But some mistakes can be avoided if you're not afraid to ask. So, feel free..........."If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

While this thread is old, it shows a couple of things (all about monohydrate):
1. People still ask the same questions, and
2. Most of the answers have not really changed.
