Days off...

Do any of you take a period of time off? meaning like a week or to without doing any type of exercise?

Last week I got sick, and have been fighting this cold/flu. Needless to say, I've will end up missing the better part of 2 weeks.

But I've been consistent with working out for a year now and haven't missed more than 2 days a week.

How badly will this affect me? Or, will it end up benefiting me in the long run? Just interested in your thoughts of taking time off...on purpose or do to illness.

I lost 3 weeks in November due to a hellish virus and resulting sore ribs. The first week back was tough. I had to keep the weights low, even if I felt like I could lift more. The resulting DOMs were incredible. By the end of the 3 weeks my muscles looked smaller but they quickly pumped right back up. Same with the weights. The second week back was better and by the third all was the same again. One thing that being out that long did do, besides give my muscles and cns a break, was give me a real look at how much muscle I had. Take away the pump and ick. That's what prompted me to start a bulk last week.

Just rest easy, you're not going to be set back for long. Keep your protein up as much as you can, it is hard when you're sick. Otherwise don't worry about it. Just do what you need to do to feel better.

I get sinus infections that put me down for a week at a time. I find the best thing to do is rest up and get better and hit the gym with renewed vigor the next week. If I wait until I'm good and ready I can pick right up where I left off.

Rest up, hope you feel better soon.

Taking a break from the gym is a good thing....I try to take at least 5 consecutive days off for every 10-12 weeks of training...rests and repairs your muscles and you'll come back better than ever!

Thanks ladies. I know I should beat myself up about it. I've just had so many setbacks with my health this year and am sick of it. haha.

I'm pouting & frusterated! LOL.
