Since nobody apparently read the article (because they were too busy staring at the chick, I presume)....

The money for the campaign came from donations. Dawkins, himself said that he would have liked to divert a large portion of the money to another cause - but it was donated for the specific purpose of the bus campaign, so they felt legally obligated to use all the money for it.

And it wasn't Dawkins' project, he was just a supporter.

I'm surprised and delighted but also somewhat embarrassed. The original target was 5,500 pounds [about $8,250], which I offered to match and we thought that we'd be lucky to get. . . . It would have been enough for buses for a brief period in London.

What happened was huge numbers of people gave small sums -- 10 pounds, 15 pounds. . . . The final figure is something like 130,000. That's why I said I was embarrassed, because that is too much money to spend on a bus campaign. That much money would have been better spent doing something else. . . .

I was actually in favor of diverting the money to something else, which I thought the donors would approve. But other members of the group felt that [as] the money had been given for the bus campaign they were legally obliged to spend it on that campaign.

Also - I don't think it was a bad use of the money. If it makes people question their faith - or brings more attention to atheism as an alternative to theist dogma....It's worth it.

the ads were placed specifically to combat christian advertisements that 'non-believers go to hell'.

if the atheist ads get people to stop and think about the fallacy of theism, they are well worth it.

I'm yet to have an atheist walk up to me and ask me if i believed in god, or knew about athiesm etc. I lost track of the number of bible huggers that have came up to me pushing their agenda.

This bus campaign is a rarity in the scheme of things. That said, i do believe believers of any faith, or lack there of, should keep to themselves.

I scanned the article, but didn't see if these were privately owned corporation buses or if they were public transit buses. Like in America, would this be allowed on mass transit buses in NY, or not because aren't they run by the state?

coming from a group that claims to base itself on logic, that is about the stupidest thing ive ever seen atheists do.. Religious people go out of their way to spread a message they believe will save others from eternal punishment, and whether or not you believe the particular views, you at least have to admit the motive is a good one (saving people)

This on the other hand, is something like $300,000 dollars spent just to say everyone's gonna die and disapear. WHO CARES? it's not my money so it doesn't bother me, (same way i ignore the religious signs on the road) but it is completely illogical to do, seeing as it does nothing for the people paying for it, and has no motivation of helping people either (because again, it makes sense to spend money if you feel you are helping someone, it doesn't make sense to spend money for the sole purpose of being louder and more obnoxious.) If he wants to show how awesome atheists are, he should have sent that money to ethiopia or cancer research or something to, ya know, help us in our one and only lifetime.

If someone follows a specific religion, that person lacks an enormous amount of knowledge/understanding in the following areas: physics, biology, chemistry, philosophy, sociology, common sense, and everything in between.

Because if he knew what he should know, he'd be an Atheist--like scientists. The people who know the most about the world, life, and the universe.
