Winged Scapula
I've been doing physiotherapy for 6 months on my serratus anterior, middle and lower trapezius - for some reason though I don't seem to be making any progress.
Most of the exercises I have been given I haven't found tiring. Is it possible I am using the wrong form and my physio hasn't spotted it?
I've been doing scapula push ups on my knees, then in press up position (although I'm pretty sure I could do the press up position before hand) - plus I used to do karate for a long time, which involves a LOT of punching and my shoulders still stuck out then.
As for the mid/lower traps - I've been lying on my front with my arms by my sides, squeezing my shoulder blades together.
I'm not sure if my serratus anterior is actually weak, but I am certain that my lower trapezius is, and I'm having great difficulty in working it.
Any help would be much appreciated!

The pushup that you are doing for this condition shold be like a normal pushup then you pres up a further 1-2 inches.
The science is out there!

Misc Dr Advisor
Did you get a EMG and nerve conduction study done?
That can tell you if there is damage to the long thoracic nerve or problem with the brachial plexus.
Ive had the same problem for several years myself but am to a point where I can do most back exercises but still have problem with chest and shoulder presses.

No I haven't, a consultant I saw did mention my long thoracic nerve, so I'll see the doctor and ask him about it.

quit doing all exercises right now until u get your thorasic nerve checked... if it's your nerve,, then excercises will not help but make it worse..
if it's just a weak seratus thats one thing,, but nerve damaged is nothing to fool with
i had the same thing over a year ago..there is no therapy for it.. u just have to let the nerve heal by itself,, it took me a year.. but me doing nothing is the only thing that healed it... GO SEE A NEUROLOGIST
most of the ppl here will tell u to work it out but that's because if they had it.. it was not do to nerve damage.
yes i've tried doing incline first
reps on recharge.. demonwareltd, flang, TTimmerman, wala, Canuck77

I had a thorasic nerve pulsy that rendered my arm useless for over 3 months. 4 years later I still suffer from scapula winging. Could have been worse.
