Your thoughts on mma situation

This is similar to the mom thread except for a girlfriend. Ive been contemplating mma for a while now, been a fan for over 5 years now. I have a gf of almost 4 years now. Shes ok with mma but when i mentioned my interest in starting it myself she said no way. She says she doesnt want to be with a fighter basically saying shed break up with me if i did it. She says she has a problem with the traveling and girls. Basically she thinks i would never be home and I would have girls on me all the time. I just want to do it for the sport but she doesnt realize that. Anyway i want to start it anyway to see where it takes me and i dont think it fair for her to say i cant do something that ive been passionate about since before i even knew her. Would you all start it anyway?

Why does she think you will be travelling all the time? Realistically, it will be a while before you get to fight. You will just train locally for the most part and even when you get ready to fight I would think you would be able to do so locally as well when you start out. Now training time might take a good chunk of your free time if you are serious and I could see how that might concern her, but you aren't going to be flying to Vegas every other weekend to fight. As for the girls being all over you, just don't wear Tapout shirts when you go out in public and you will be fine.

It sounds to me like your GF doesn't know what MMA is.

It's probably important to explain to your GF that you are at least 5-10 years away from the traveling and girls that she is thinking of. She probably sees the UFc and the fans and how they are all over and thinks that will be you.

Also explain to her that MMA isn't UFC fighting as most non fans believe...and that you will be fighting in crappy bars and gyms for a few years if you even want to compete on that level.

Not saying you won't make it there but, it's not happening over night.

Seems like she is worried you will be GSP or something like a movie star.....if she was worried about you getting hurt then she would have a real concern.

5 years? Guessing you are serious about her?

Maybe sit her down and explain why exactly you want to train and try to aleviate her fears. If you are working, training locally and spending spare time with her, there wouldn't be any extra time for extra women lol Also, she could always come along if/when you would be out of town. Although, I doubt there would be much, if any, travelling at this point and for a while.

Try to have a rational conversation and try to come to an understanding. Otherwise, follow your heart. If it's really something you want to do, and you won't be happy if you don't try, DO IT.

Even more on topic: I would do it.

I got called out a few times. Lol. I had on my Bushido Martial Arts shirt. It says "I am trained in the arts of Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, and Judo" on the back, with a badass animation of GnP. This dude was all trying to act hard and ****, saying I didn't really train. Lulz.

Ive been taking mma classes 3 days a week for 6 months, and so far I've fought in the UFC twice, been staying in Vegas for at least 3 out of the 6 months for various fights and training camps. Im basically never home, as the life of an mma fighter is rarely training at your home camp, but actually constantly fighting and picking up chicks. I really don't have time to train between fighting in the UFC and picking up chicks at after party events.
