If you want to decrease your water do it slowly, or you might get more severely dehydrated.
Drinking 6-7L (1.5-2 gallons) of water a day is great though, the website was probably providing a minimum, since most readers wouldn't have a chance of drinking 2 gallons of water a day. Sounds like what you read was directed to the average person who's not supplementing with protein/creatine/NO products and using an intense bodybuilding program.
