Honesty is not the best policy.
I made the mistake this morning of telling my trainer that while I really like MOST of our workouts, I find the ones where we don't use heavy weights or much weight in general to be tiring, but non productive. "Let's put aside some of your nonweight exercises and step up the lifting heavy routines" I said. She took it well, just sort of nodded and said "okayyyyyy, fine."
It didn't occur to me that telling her that right before we started leg day was a really f**king stupid idea. OMG, she killed me. Heavy squats, one legged squats, tons of lunges with heavy ass barbells forwards and backwards, more squats with her adding weight like a mad woman. "Can you handle 10 pounds more per side?" she'd ask? '"Yes? In that case let's add 25's!"
I did everything she threw at me and was smart enough to hit the treadmill for 20 minutes of fast walking afterwards, but once I got home I could feel it setting in. Hard. Man she tore my legs up. I couldn't walk down stairs right now if my life depended on it. I should have kept my mouth shut until chest and tri day.

LOL, I remember one day my trainer said that we weren't going to touch a weight for the entire workout. I was pissed but I knew to keep my mouth shut!

Lol! I've learned the same lesson, over and over, and still don't get it right
If I say I hate anything, you can bet that's exactly what I will end up doing. If I tell my trainer that the weight he chose was a bit ambitious, he stays with it and tells me next week it's going up.
I love trainers like this!

Tell her you really enjoyed that workout and you want to keep it at that level for all muscle groups.
You're paying her to train you, sounds to me like she finally did what you wanted.

I don't have a trainer but reading a thread a few days ago about box squats, hack squats, etc., I remember quite a few of you said to go as LOW as you can go. I realized that I was doing it "lightweight" meaning stopping at knee level and back up.
Last night, I went as low as I could with the weight I could manage and man, I felt lightheaded, nausceous and wanted to throw UP! After I got home and slammed down the shake, I felt it starting to come up. I was that nauceous. Fortunately, I just came up dry heaves.
Today, my ass hurts like hell and I'm walking funny. My co-worker asked if I'm having diarrhea problems.

I have a client who requested more ab work - she just wasn't feeling soreness. Well, after today's session (and being "off" for the holidays) she kept wondering where I heard that!!! Oh yeah, sister! She's gonna feel it!

Oncebitten, when you are able to walk again, you should complement her for giving you the type of exercise you wanted.

Amazing thing that "Potential" word is, huh? Scary part is that you now KNOW you are capable of a lot more. Next Leg Day is at the least the weight you used today....but you know you will add more
Enjoy that journey deep into yourself....

I'll avoid bringing up the logical discussion of when/what/why there is purpose in cycling lower weight/higher reps in for any given body part on occasion, including interspersed during a heavy day, and simply post my boyfriend's more lighthearted response when he read this thread...
"Hell, anyone can puke after lifting, especially after deads. You're not hardcore unless you puke, go back for more, and then start to dry heave... that's hardcore. Forget the light crap, push it to failure all the time and in every way like a real man..." (as I roll my eyes at him)
Those of you who know the two of us know that this lead to another one of our humorous "brains vs. brawn" training debates...
