competition dreams gone for at least a year (snapped pectoral tendon)
well today was supposed to be 20 weeks out from competiton, was starting a very slow process of cutting crap out of my diet while still trying to bulk for 8 weeks then was onto my 12 weeks strict diet
been training my arse off for 4 months and even took time out of work to prepare for show
so 22nd decmeber comes and had a few days rest was at 19stn 12 lb (278lb)
went back to gym on 28th decmber and decide tdo chest workout had a good warm up session then went onto flat bench press
1st set was fine 8 reps on 130kg
2 nd set also 8 reps on 150kg
3rd set comes doing 160kg and on 3rd rep whilst bar at chest could literally hear my tendon snap or tear which ever it was
been in and out of hospital for last ten days and back on wednesdayto try sort out gettign operated on,
ive been sat aorund doing nothign since this happeend and am absolutely gutted as was puttign all and everythigninto doing show in may
well hopefully can get operated on get it sorted and aim for same show next year
after looking into this type of injurty every story i have read ove rthe intenet it is always flat barbell bench that seems to cause this injury
BEFORE
AFTER
YOU CAN SEE THE AREA ACROSS THE ARMPIT WHERE THE MUSCLE HAS RETRACTED

So sorry to hear bro, but judging from the pics you're a true beast and will make it back next year!
It's a good oportunity to let the whole body heal for a while, it obviously needed a break.

sorry man! I'm a big anti-flat BB press (DC vet)........take it slow and find good help. I'd suggest contacting Layne Norton (str8flexed) who had a recent tear. He talks highly of the people who worked on him........

That really sucks bro. What weight were you lifting that caused that? It must have been that "heavy ass weight" (coleman LOL).

This is really sad. Even more that it will last a year. Hope you'll be OK for a less time and continue to weightlift.

after reading up alot best way to do heavy barbell press is have a slightly closer grip and you dont need to go alway down to chest
what caused my injury was probaly to wide a grip and i had the bar to my chest when it snapped

WOW bro i feel really bad for you. Its suck when you are looking forward to something and finally get to do it, and then something like this happens. You'll be back though, look at Layne and other people.

Your spirits seem to be in the right place; focused on what you have to do to recover and get ready for next year.
Best of luck to you and hope you heal quickly.
BTW, I'm avoiding flat bench press with weight to the chest in memory of your tragedy.

I snapped my achillies tendon when I was 14, going by that it hurts like grabbing, then pulling your scrotum up over your head...

lets put it this way i would rather be kicked in the nuts then feel that pain ever again,
i was lucky to be honest as there was some good lads in the gym at time it happend so they where there instantly as i was rolling around the floor in a state of shock and my body was tryign to be sick i couldnt talk or make a sound at first
the lads strapped my arm to my body then was in car on way to hospital that when the real pain started and was squeling for good ten minutes pain killers did take away the pain but could move my arm at all
have got a constant stabbing pain in my chest and armpit now am a little flexible if move slowly
once operartion is doen then ill be strapped up again
ive got link to story of somone local here it happeend to will post link it explains his surgery and full recovery

am not totaly sure if hospital are gonna recommened surgery (NHS) but this fella got it so am using this as my argument
worst case scenario if they dont operate will have to go private
