Seasonal Depression
Do any of you get it? What do you do for it? For me, I go tanning! I haven't started yet but I will soon! I was just wondering if anyone else gets it and what they do to help snap out of it.

I been turning my negative thoughts into positive actions/thoughts recently. When I feel blue, Help others with their problems on yahoo answers (LOL) , put on a movie, call up a funny friend for a stupid chat. It helped me out this holiday. Last night my friend was drunk and decided to tell me everything she hated about me, it got me really down and I had a cry when I got home. When I woke up I went for a jog and booked an appointment for a manicure/pedicure tomorrow. It's my new year resolution to be a lot more positive.
Is there anything you want to talk about on here about why you feel down? Xx

Yep, I used to get it, and like you I'd purchase the 'Deluxe Tanning Package' each and every year I lived in NYC. I got cured when I moved to Hawaii though!

OMG good for you for not letting her squish you! I HATE people like that!!
Thanks, nah it's just a seasonal thing that I hate. I'm a HUGE outdoors person that happens to hate cold weather and lack of sunshine so it gets me moody. I'll just start tanning early this year lol. Thanks!

I read somewhere that's actually how tanning beds developed...after seeing the awesome side effect from UV light treatment for depression.
I've never been diagnosed with SAD but I think I have a tendency toward depression in the winters. The more mild the winter, the better I fare. I have used tanning beds in the winter when I find myself becomming completely unmotivated to do anything and quit enjoying things I normally enjoy (considering they're health and fitness related, they probably help a lot in and of themselves so when I can no longer get into going to the gym and eating well I'm doubly screwed...LOL). Even during a mild winter like this one, though, I'm pretty sleepy and slightly disgruntled all day unless the sun is shining and the temp is in the mid-seventies.
I think I must have been a reptile in a former life. I'd love to bake on a hot rock in the sun all day.

I bask in the sun whenever I see it.
Sometimes I'll get a blanket and curl up in a patch of sun! Other times I stick my head out of the door and close my eyes.

Hey baby OH YES!!!! I get it, I got it and it sucks, actually hoping to move eventually because of it.
I just stared tanning and it does help, although it's not a good for your skin,
but I can't take feeling that way any more.
Hope you had a good holiday

Here is another post on the topic that I started a few months back: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=111756331
I get seasonal depression as well. I think, as far as home remedies go, taking 5-HTP and using a light box (not tanning, because that can harm your skin) is suggested. If you have sleep problems (either too much or too little) there are things you can do regarding melatonin or using daylight simulator lights in the bedroom.

Yeah I get seasonal depression, but found eating clean, lifting weights, doing cardio, & taking my vitamens & minerals really help. Just taking time for yourself works miracles too. If nothing else, hot kinky sex should make you forget it for awhile!

I absolutely LOVE winter! It's my favorite season by far and when I'm the happiest. I usually get a little depressed around spring.

I get depression but it's not seasonal, I think it's inherited.

I think my depression may have started as seasonal depression, but i didn't take care of myself in general for a couple years after high school and it kept compounding even during other seasons. It's definitely always worse in the winter/early spring though.
Someone posted this link a couple weeks ago in the misc and i really like it. Pretty much summarizes why not to do what I did...
Quote:
Remember this: Whenever you are depressed, wait for the moment that the depression goes. Nothing lasts forever; the depression will go. And when it leaves you, wait ? be aware and alert ? because after the depression, after the night, there will be a dawn and the sun will rise. If you can be alert in that moment. you will he happy that you were depressed. You will be grateful that you are depressed because only through your depression was this mint of happiness possible
But what do we do? We move in an infinite regression We get depressed. Then we get depressed because of the depression: a second depression follows. If you are depressed. that?s okay! ? nothing is wrong in it. It is beautiful because through it you will learn and mature. But then you feel badly. "Why do I get depressed? I should not get depressed." Then you start fighting with the depression. The first depression is good, but the second depression is unreal. And this unreal depression will cloud your mind. You will miss the moment that would have followed the real depression.
When depressed, be depressed. Simply be depressed. Don?t get depressed about your depression. When depressed, simply be depressed. Don?t fight it, don?t create any diversion, don?t force it to go. Just allow it to happen; it will go by itself. Life is a flux; nothing remains the same. You are not needed; the river moves by itself, you don?t have to push it. If you are trying to push it, you are simply foolish. The river flows by itself. Allow it to flow.
When depression is there, allow it to be. Don?t get depressed about it. If you want to remove it sooner, you will get depressed. If you fight it, you will create a secondary depression that is dangerous. The first depression is beautiful, God-given. The second depression is your own. It is not God-given; it is mental. Then you will move in mental grooves. They are infinite.
If you get depressed, be happy that you are depressed and allow the depression to be. Then suddenly the depression will disappear and there will be a breakthrough. No clouds will be there and the sky will be clear. For a single moment, heaven opens for you. If you are not depressed about your depression you can contact, you can commune, you can enter this heavenly gate. And once you know it, you have learned one of the ultimate laws of life: that life uses the opposite as a teacher, as a back-ground.

I don't know anything about the author and it's a bit cheesy and very repetitive, but I like the general thought.
