I have asthma as well, I would suggest going to the doctor and asking about an inhaler. These have proved helpful to me. Also ask about possible allergies. I recieve monthly shots for my allergies and these tend to help with the asthma.

wallbuilder is on the money. Check with ur doctor and he'll give u a break down, its not somethign u want to trial and error on ur own. take the time to go to the doc itll help u in the long run and allow u to get back to training quicker..which is the goal!

    ditto on the asthma.

yes, see a doc. Albuterol gives near instant relief. However, if you find yourself using it more than once a week or so, then you will want to investigate getting a stabilizer medicine.

I also struggle asthma the big thing is knowing your threshold and pushing it safely... I went from being in and out of the hosptial to not even needing my inhaler in more unless i get sick (which hasnt been for a while). Albuterol is the most common fast acting rescue inhaler i kno of and it works make sure you keeo it with you when doing phyical activities. the best way to control it is to take a puff b4 you begin so your airways are open b4 you began to strain yourself... Once you learn you threshol you will be able to manage your asthma and maybe grow out of it if your lucky...

Oh lots of controlled cardio helps build your tolerance and ive found that meditaion helps calm if you become excited...

lol, I thought I was the only that had this problem with perfume. As I've gotten older I've noticed it's not always just the excersise as much as it is inhaling deeper and having these enviromental triggers setting it off. I've been running on a cold night and inhaled the smell of fabric softner from someones dryer exhaust and had an attack. But albuterol has never failed me.

I use Intal as a stabilizer, daily. And have been for past 15 years. I only use albuterol when I catch cold, which invariably migrates into my lungs.

There is also cortizone type inhalers, which are powerful and work well, but I try to avoid those long term.

Yeah, perfumes set me off as well. I spend alot of money on soaps, shampoos, and laundry soap that are unscented. For some reason, you have to spend more to get unscented. Also, other pollutants can aggrevate me. Auto exhaust, diesel fumes, wood smoke, paint, scented candles, glade plugins, new carpet smell, hairsprays and spray deoderants, etc. Wood smoke is ubiquitous when its cold. Everyone lights up a fireplace. So I suspect cold air asthma is more a reaction to wood smoke.
