middle east conflict
the thread is purely to expand my knowledge on the conflist between hamas and israel. just looking at different opinions besides my own
will israel commence the ground campaign? does israel have the right to do this?
if so, what will be the repercussions for the countries surrounding the conflict area and to the US (if any)
anyhting else you'd like to add, go ahead.

One thousand were killed or wounded, as the Israeli Air Force conducted over a hundred strikes - on graduation ceremonies for Hamas fighters, police stations and storage sites for rockets.
|
ironic that i looked at the news 20 minutes ago where its said that 6 Israelis and about 375 Hamas/Palestinians

I would imagine a ground assault is unlikely at this point. I think their immediate goals have been met. Now of course, that may quickly change depending on how Hamas reacts to the week's events.

from what i know, Israel's demand is that Hamas stop fire rockets and that Israel will retaliate if Hamas doesnt stop. as far as i know, they havent stopped. so why would it be unlikely if they dont stop?

The Palestinians will run out of rockets before israel runs out of bombs. I'm not sure Hamas wants to call Israel's bluff on this one.

Sure, the aerial assaults would continue. However, that's different then sending in infantry and armored divisions.

I think it's more then likely that Hamas wants Israel to enter into Gaza. It's the only way Hamas can effectively fight against the IDF; as those kasaam rockets are fireworks compared to what the IDF is using.

how far do they go with air strikes tho? eventually if the rockets continue Israel will have send in ground troops to do the more precise work.
besides, the Israelis would still want to get rid of the Hamas. just like the US with insurgents

Maybe, maybe not. I don't think anyone knows for sure.
However, it also depends on what Israel's real objective is. Are they attempted to kill off Hamas? or do they really just want the rockets to stop being fired.
I mean, there are so many variables at play that I don't think anyone can really pinpoint exactly what will happen over the next few days, weeks, or months.

true, pretty much all we know is what the news tells us and we assume what the personality of Israel is.
if they're very nationalistic they might go after Hamas
but i totally agree. nothing is for sure. this thread is jsut for people opinions
