Hopefully, for LSU fans, he can recruit more of those type guys

He doesn't recruit. He's a LB specialist too. He consistently puts out top defenses even when his team has little to no offense.
I'm thrilled tbh. We'll either get Coach O or Brick for our D-line coach.. and we might end up with an NFL DB coach for our secondary.
Future is bright.

I like the fact that Chavis has been with Tennessee so long even after possible jobs at other schools and the NFL. Whoever LSU ends up with I hope they stay a while, to many coaching changes.
I'm not too familar with Chavis style of defense, anyone aware?

A few quotes..
Dec 3 -- No shift on LSU defense. Mallory, Peveto still co-coordinators for Tiger defense....Meanwhile, John Chavis, Tennessee's defensive coordinator since 1995, is suddenly looking for a job. Chavis, a blitz specialist who has had some of the best defenses in the SEC during his career, has not been retained by new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin.
Dec 2 -- LSU should order some Chavis with a blitz chaser. Former Tennessee defensive coordinator John Chavis is hot, he's available, he's known for the blitz and he is Southeastern Conference aged. LSU coach Les Miles needs to act quickly and try to hire the 52-year-old Chavis as soon as possible ... Chavis had been Tennessee's defensive coordinator since 1995, and through most of those years the Vols had among the best defenses in the SEC. He is also known as a blitz bandit. The blitz is his answer to everything, and his blitzes come from every area of the field. The blitz has been a problem at LSU for most of the last four seasons, particularly this season. Chavis knows the SEC. He cut his teeth going against the master - Steve Spurrier when he was at Florida. ... What Miles should do is hire Chavis
“Frankly, I think (defensive coordinator) John Chavis has saved (Fulmer’s) job for 10 years.” Ex-Vols coach. Johnny Majors
"Stout, attacking defenses were the norm under Chavis, who took over as UT's coordinator in 1995."--Knoxville News Sentinel
"He loves to blitz and play man-to-man defense," said former Tennessee linebacker Eric Westmoreland
"His No. 1 deal is if you're going to try to sit back there and throw 25 or 30 times a game, your quarterback is going to get hit early and often," former Tennessee quarterback Casey Clausen said Monday. "He'll bring a whole lot of emotion and physical style to practice and into the games. He loves to get after the quarterback. I think he would be a great fit at LSU."
"Coach Chavis never lets an offense dictate how the game's going to be played to his defense. If he has cornerbacks who can play man, he's going to play man and blitz and pressure the quarterback from different places. That's his trademark. He'll bring cornerbacks, safeties, linebackers. We all got sacks."
