Seeing someone walk into the gym for their first session with no confidence or self esteem and overweight, and after working with them you see them loose weight and become a more confident/ happier person.

how often do these success stories actually happen? like what percentage many clients actually stick with you long enough to change their body/self image?

Its tough to say what percentage, but it all starts from the very first consultation that the client has with you. If a trainer plans a workout for the clients goals then they have to let the client know that each workout builds off another. Eventually they will reach their goal. If the client realises this and you tell them that the changes will take time to see, most of the clients will stay with you. As long as you are working hard they will too.

perks to personal training
Well, I met my current boss as I was training him. It seems like a carrer in personal training is short, but can lead to many great opportunities.

Had a very skinny guy wanting to get big. I started w/ him, he weighed 120lbs at 6'1. Today, he weighs 190, 7% bodyfat.
Had a girl in a chair with CP. She couldn't use her legs. Wanted to lose weight (20lbs) to help improve her health. She dropped the weight with my nutrition suggestions and workout three days a week. She's stronger and more mobile now.
Had a highschool wrestler that gained weight after graduating. He wanted to get back in shape and lose the beer gut. Today you can see his abs. Oh, and he is blind.
Most of my clients have a disability. About 80% do of some kind. Currently have a client with HIV and in a wheelchair.

Are you still training with the kid that is now 190lbs or has he figured out training for himself and no longer needs you?
Why arent there more trainers like you at my globo gym?

I'm not training him now. He's reached his goal and works out to maintain. Plus I moved for work. He still calls me asking questions. He's always wanting me to move back to train him more. I think his goal of modeling changed to bodybuilding and none of the trainers in that gym has the experience to help him.
As for your 2nd question, there aren't many trainers like me. Very very few specialize in special populations. It takes more work and research then a simple routine.
I can train anyone, but people with disabilities is most rewarding for me. They're often more challenging, but they also want it more than the average person. They understand the tough road more than the people that dream of over night success...

No prob. I trained him in a small town, so I only charged him $35 per session. Now I'm in a city. Rates here run $45-$60. I stay within that range here.
I have 4 clients that have been following me for 3 years. They're in great shape, but enjoy the way I train. They've become some great friends. Two even went to Vegas with me on vacation.
I am independent now. Contracted out.

- I make my own schedule & can take as many non-paid vacation days I want (without abusing that privilege)
- I have keys to the facility and can workout whenever I want to
- Christmas Bonuses from clients (that's a recent one)
- being in one/one relationships with people; instead of sitting in a cubicle all day
- teaching people about their own body
just a few things that popped in my head

So are you lying to him? "Yeah man you got a very defined 6 pack! It looks like you are chiseled out of marble!"
"Wow really? I wish I could see it"

When a Young lad comes up to you after Scoring his first ever goal in a soccer match and says 'thanks coach, that one was for you'
the Kid Was over weight, could only do 3 situps, and last about 10-15 mins on the pitch. now he plays a whole half, and is an asset to my team.

Nothing beats being your own boss, and having other trainers, train for you.
I still train my clients though

I guess it depends on how good you are. If you suck people aren't going to keep coming to you. If they are successful, you wil be successful. My clients vary in ages 56- 14yrs old and you would be surprised at how much improvement can be made in a short time and success isn't always just losing weight as the biggest losers seem to make everyone think. You can only control what you can control. Your clients have to be willing to make life style changes and it's your job to show them the light. There isn't any thing more rewarding than one day you can't and the next time you can. It's that simple.

NICE
Free advice is the best...
I like the feeling of watching a CEO or doctor bitch like a 12 year old about how hard a simple exercise is, but I'm one sick puppy!

Has anyone mentioned that you get to learn about a lot of different conditions while working with a lot of interesting people? I've had three new inquiries into my services in the past two weeks, and each individual has very different physical conditions and disorders that have me reading every article on said conditions I can find!! I'm learning so much, and I'm feeling very zealous in wanting to help them be more comfortable and help them feel better "inside" their bodies. I guess it's like how a new doctor might feel, or a nurse--without all that potential for gore! (Yuck, I could never work in surgery!)
