Mathis is getting up there in age but he doesn't have the mileage on him that many lineman his age (or many players his age) do. Before 2011, he only had 22 starts in 7 years - 7 in one year, and 15 in another (that's 5 years with 0 starts).
He's a pro bowler and he hasn't shown signs of slowing down yet, and moreover, we already have a hole that needs to be filled with Herremans gone (not that Herremans was particularly amazing but he was serviceable). We have no heir apparent if we get rid of Mathis. If we still trade away the farm for Mariota or anyone else in the draft, we lose draft picks that would be used to draft his successor.
Chip thinks his system will iron it out and it very well might for skill positions, but linemen just don't grow on trees.

I agree. I would be pissed if we didn't get good value, but if we got something like a 4th or higher, I'd be happy. I hope we're not looking at Dion Jordan since Miami is supposedly interested. I never liked him as a prospect and he hasn't proved me wrong yet. He's slightly better than Marcus Smith.
Maybe they plan on going o-line heavy in the draft. It doesn't make sense to trade for an injury-prone QB then throw away his o-line. Herremans was declining, but Mathis wasn't. But he's got one or two good years left. With all our trades, we still have one pick in each round at least. First four rounds are expected to be at least decent, and I would target OG, WR, S, and maybe a tackle who can play guard until Peters retires or a CB.
On an unrelated note, if we do actually sign Matthews to go with Murray, there's going to be people saying to split the carries like Murray gets 15, Matthews 10, Sproles 10, etc.
That's not how it should be thought of, and we would be foolish to do it that way. Every runningback will tell you they get better as the game goes on as they get a feel for the game. We should treat Murray and Matthews more like goalies. Murray starts a few games, then some games Matthews fills in. Sproles and Polk will be the number 2 and 3 every game. We'll still dress them. This gives us the advantage of keeping Murray healthy for the playoffs and making the defensive coordinators have to prepare two game plans.-Voted Gary Johnson in 2012 and Doing it Again 2016-

The other wrinkle in this is that along with his All-Pro talent, DeMarco also brings knowledge of the entire Dallas Cowboys offensive playbook.

Chip is gonna be pounding the rock this year.
I'm so pumped. Have 2 RB's who fit his system perfectly. One cut, N/S runners who hit the hole with authority. They will wear defenses down.
Add Bradford, who I think will thrive in this offense. He'll be getting the ball out quick, make fast decisions and deliver accurate balls.
I have a feeling they are going o line in the 1st. My guess is the Clemmings guy from Pitt.Phillies-Flyers-Eagles-Sixers

According to sources, #Eagles could possibly trade G Evan Mathis to the #Saints in exchange for WR Kenny Stills

I think Stills is a pretty good talent. He attacks the ball when he catches it.
I have not seen a ton of stills, but I do believe he catches a lot of long balls.
He had a 4.38 40yd dash at the combine
931 yards on 63 catches 3 tds last yearCPA

Pepper your anooses for offensive linemen this draft and even next year. Chip values offensive linemen a great deal, and this team needs some young guys there badly when Peters/Mathis decline or get traded, and to replace Herremans. Lane Johnson is probably the LT of the future and I'm expecting big things from him this year, as well as Kelce at C. Still have the G spots and RT to focus on the next couple of years.

i don't like the trade for Kenny Stills. I'd rather we pick up a SS then Stills' bum ass. We can get a good WR in the draft. DGB or Jaelen Strong should be there at #20.

Mariota is not happening. Which is good, I hated the idea of moving up for him. Bradford I'm skeptical on but hopefully it works.
I honestly don't get the Murray signing. I guess it's cool, but I'd be perfectly fine with Matthews, Polk, and Sproles.5/23

Chip has me on a roller coaster ride of emotions...I don't even know what to think about this new offense. I like it but this team still needs a WR(hoping they sign Bowe)
