Roman Catholic Thread
There are too many threads and discussions about Christianity versus non-Christianity and many on the validity of the Holy Bible.
I think we should have a thread to discuss the following:
-The Holy Trinity
-Jesus as 100% God and 100% man
-Blessed Virgin Mary
-True Presence in the Blessed Sacrament (transubstantiation)
-Seven Sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance, Holy Matrimony, Holy Orders, Annointing of the Sick)
-Heaven, Hell, Purgatory
-Communion of Saints
-worship as a true sacrifice
-Holy Bible, Catechism of the Catholic Church, Sacred Tradition
-Infallibility of the Pope
-Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin
-Virgin Birth of Our Lord and Savior
-Glorious Assumption of the Blessed Virgin
-Ten Commandments: God's Laws for His People
I encourage you this thread to start with the Credo or the Roman Catholic Affirmation of Faith.

Daily Mass Readings
December 26, 2008
Feast of Saint Stephen, first martyr Reading 1
Responsorial Psalm
Gospel
Reading 1
Acts 6:8-10; 7:54-59
Stephen, filled with grace and power,
was working great wonders and signs among the people.
Certain members of the so-called Synagogue of Freedmen,
Cyrenians, and Alexandrians,
and people from Cilicia and Asia,
came forward and debated with Stephen,
but they could not withstand the wisdom and the spirit with which he spoke.
When they heard this, they were infuriated,
and they ground their teeth at him.
But he, filled with the Holy Spirit,
looked up intently to heaven
and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God,
and he said,
?Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man
standing at the right hand of God.?
But they cried out in a loud voice, covered their ears,
and rushed upon him together.
They threw him out of the city, and began to stone him.
The witnesses laid down their cloaks
at the feet of a young man named Saul.
As they were stoning Stephen, he called out
?Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.?
Responsorial Psalm
Ps 31:3cd-4, 6 and 8ab, 16bc and 17
R. (6) Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.
Be my rock of refuge,
a stronghold to give me safety.
You are my rock and my fortress;
for your name?s sake you will lead and guide me.
R. Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.
Into your hands I commend my spirit;
you will redeem me, O LORD, O faithful God.
I will rejoice and be glad because of your mercy.
R. Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.
Rescue me from the clutches of my enemies and my persecutors.
Let your face shine upon your servant;
save me in your kindness.
R. Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.
Gospel
Mt 10:17-22
Jesus said to his disciples:
?Beware of men, for they will hand you over to courts
and scourge you in their synagogues,
and you will be led before governors and kings for my sake
as a witness before them and the pagans.
When they hand you over,
do not worry about how you are to speak
or what you are to say.
You will be given at that moment what you are to say.
For it will not be you who speak
but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
Brother will hand over brother to death,
and the father his child;
children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.
You will be hated by all because of my name,
but whoever endures to the end will be saved.?

Where do all the notions like "Infallibility of the Pope", and "Purgatory" appear in the bible?

How could the Pope be infallible? He is a man like any other. That would impossible, as no one is infallible.

I was raised roman catholic. My family and i go to church every sunday. After a while i began to question the existence of god and never looked back. It is one of the reasons i am atheist today.

Second Vatican Council

I don't know Thomas Merton or Meister Eckhart (although I have heard of Merton).
As for the Second Vatican Council, I believe that the reforms made are part of the Roman Catholic religion.
I do believe that many churches do not celebrate the Ordinary Form properly though.
-many priests fly haphazardly through the canons. Eucharistic Prayer I is hardly used.
-the faithful don't bow like they're supposed to during the mention of the Incarnation in the Creed
-the faithful don't make the proper reverences before receiving the Blessed Sacrament (either genuflecting or making profound bows) although there are many churches where this is properly practiced.
-people are holding hands (or in the orans posture) while praying the Pater which is not mentioned in the rubrics
-drums, guitars, contemporary praise music??? They can't save that for the parish hall?
-sometimes the priests "improvise" the texts they are supposed to say:
for instance: "Behold the Lamb of God. Behold Jesus who comes to take away the sin of the world."
which is incorrect
Like I said, I prefer the Extraordinary Form, but I do not deny the validity of the Ordinary Form.

As far as I'm concerned, papal infallibility is NOT in the Holy Bible, but there may be people who may be able to explain how the teaching came to be and why it is doctrine.
There are verses that speak of a state of final purification before Heaven.

We believe the infallibility only applies to the Pope speaking on matters of faith and morals.

It's not. It's a symbol like Jesus used at the last supper. Most rational Christians know this, but some actually believe when they take communion the wine becomes His blood, and the bread His flesh. If Jesus literally meant to eat His flesh and drink His blood, He would of told His disciples to take a chunk of His arm or something.

All right, the third is Maximillian Kolbe. He died in a concentration camp, great saint to read about.

It seems I've come into a problem. . .
Catholics,
What should I make of this? This is an article about why the New American Bible is dangerous to Roman Catholic faith.
http://www.pugiofidei.com/NAB.htm
That said, which translation of the Holy Bible am I to read and study?
Another topic got me curious about translations of the Holy Bible and I ran into this article.
