5x5 & hunger!
The past week, since I started this 5x5 program and added some cardio (30 mins. 2-3x/week), I am HUNGRY!!!
I'm talking about honest-to-goodness-real-I-want-food-and-lots-of-it-and-can't-wait-to-eat-again hunger. And I'm not eating little pissant hamster-sized or Nutrisystem portions.
Today, so far:
8 oz. 2% milk, container of low fat yogurt & whey protein shake.
Sliced nova salmon, 4 oz., whipped cream cheese, on a Thomas's whole wheat round (not an English muffin, their new toaster breads).
Cup of lentil soup; steamed broccoli cuts; home-mashed potatoes; roasted chicken breast; gravy.
Later, pre-workout: Φαγε Total Greek style yogurt (can't spell it in English as F-a-g-e ), EAS Carb Advantage bar (they are yummy!).
I can only imagine what I'll do to the refrig for pwo and dinner!

Yeah, any 5x5 is such a grueling systemic challenge that it really ups the hunger. Makes splits feel like hopscotch in comparison. Eat, eat, eat, if you are hungry it is too late.

Yes, I get hungry when I am in a heavy phase. That program or when I am doing my games prep. I can tell when it is real bad because I crave steak. When this happens it only confirms my belief that I will never do any bodybuilding, I don't know how those guys do it.

That doesn't really look like a lot. Any idea what the numbers are?

I'm beginning to think that if I lose any of this fat, it's going to be because of the intensity of the routine. Certainly not through trying to cut. I'm to the point of wanting to increase my strength and muscle that I don't care if I lose it. If I'm going to do the routine successfully, I gotta eat. And I'm not eating junk, I'm pleased to say.

Haha I knew someone would think that!
Going to fitday... brb...
So far about 1800 cal. The fat is a bit high because of the Greek yogurt. It's my one vice, the full fat version.
Fitday says:
Cals 1,837; Fat 76.6 g; Carbs 138.6 g; Prot 156.5 g.
And I'm not done yet. I still have a during workout shake (Muscle Milk or Labrada) and dinner, which will probably be some lean roast pork and rice and vegs. I'm sure I'll hit 2600 cals.

As long as my pants fit! And even then I have a good tailor who can do a little magic.

Yeah I look at the diets of most people featured on BB.com and I can't believe how little they eat. I'm still pigging out right up until I go to bed, with my last protein shake at 2am.

seems to me you would need more protein to feed your muscles on that kind of diet. but I of course am no expert.

Hungry you say? I'm chewin on ice cubes here. I'm lifting at my max. and doin a modified Atkins. It sure is tough to up intensity and at the same time try to drop belly fat.
I don't count calories but try to keep protein grams 1 to 1 1/2 gram per body weight pound. Try this one:
6am 40 grams whey/water
8am Buffalo burger 60 grams
11am 60 grams whey/water
2:30pm 40 grams chicken breast and 1/3 banana and tblspn P nutt butter
6pm about 60 grams tuna Shashimi and one Sushi roll with crab/avacado/rice
Midnight I will do another 40 grams whey/water

I go through a lot of tree nuts and dried fruits. I've found those keep my hunger at bay better than anything else between meals.

That was up to that point in the day. I actually got closer to 256 g of protein.

Thanks Bill. I can definitely get behind the sushi!
I originally thought about doing this routine on an Atkins/ckd, but that was soundly shot down as being a very bad choice for me. I think I can get about 250+ g of protein per day. For me that > 1g/lb of bodyweight.
I am hoping that the intensity of the routine, the little bit of cardio, and actually eating more (I think I was undereating before), and some help from Cytomel (prescription! prescription! ) will help. My doc over wrote the # of Cytomel tabs, so I can pop an extra one or three per day or every other day. He already ran my thyroid panel.
I just had a Muscle Milk shake and a toasted Thomas' whole wheat sandwich round with a schmear of natty pb. I'm off to the gym for max squats, med. bp and med. rows. I ate a ****load of angel hair pasta last night (and have the bloat to prove it) so my glycogen should be ready to rock 'n roll.

With the pasta, rice and potatoes over the past few days, I've put on 8 lbs in a week. I know this is water. My rings are tight.

Dried fruits? I'd be Farty Marty. Moreso than usual.
