    Question Shoulder grinding sounds?

When moving arms in a wheel movement, or doing shoulder exercises I hear a grinding, clicking, and popping sound. Doesn't hurt, just feels weird and when i do dumbbell raises or any movement like that it makes these popping sounds and i feel and hear them but no real pain.

    ANY IDEAS?
    C'mon son!

It's most likely impingement. My shoulder problem started just as yours, but progressed to a good amount of pain in my right. I have a ice pack on it as I type this. Now I'm going to physical therapy for it, they have me doing a lot of rotator cuff exercises to strengthen the smaller muscles of the shoulder, I would start doing the same if I were you. Also I haven't even lifted in 3 months due to a hernia but the shoulder pain did not decrease at all with rest. Sometimes it hurts just to hold a 20lb dumbbell in my hand. I think I'll probably never again do some exercises such as barbell bench, upright rows, and overhead presses. Hopefully I'll be able to avoid surgery. Good luck, there are a lot of rotator cuff exercises listed in the shoulder injury thread.

My palms face in towards my body and my hands are kinda like at my sides but forward a little, but not totally in front of me.

Ideally your hands should be at your sides, your rotator cuff muscles (back part of your shoulder) are probably a little weak, if I were you I'd start doing rotator cuff exercises, internal and external rotation with a band or cable, and lying on your side w/dumb bells as well as some of the other exercises listed in the rotator cuff injury thread. Make these part of your workout program, do them 2-3x's per week. Also make sure to pull your shoulder blades together on exercises especially chest, back, and the rotator cuff exercises . Personally I would avoid barbell bench but if someone had ever told me that in the past I probably wouldn't have listened to them. I'd also avoid whatever makes them grind as all you're doing is causing wear and tear. See if you can find another exercise that works the same muscle but doesnt cause the grinding.

Ive heard of this before. But it was a different sport. I knew a guy that did archery alot, and from drawing the bow over and over he had actually worn out the padding in between the joints in his arm ( sorry i forgot the name of it ). Anyway he had the symptoms just like you mentioned.

my shoulders have pretty much always grinded and popped as i worked out. if you have no pain or weakness, i wouldn't worry about it. it is probably just some scar tissue built up in the socket.
if you start having pain or weakness, then you need to go see an orthopedic surgeon to have it looked at.

    Clicking Noise in your shoulder

Hi , Massage Therapist here, Deal with this problem most of the time especially when dealing with body builders, Most common reason for this is Glenohumeral Compression, ( i sufferd this myself) to explain this all joints in the body have cartlige, By nature cartlige is a little rough, When the ligaments that assist in holding your humerous into the glenoid cavity become over tight they cause the head of the humeros to rub quite firmly over the cartlidge in the shoulder, Try some stretching, Building the rotator cuffs is good but equally if not more focus on stretching your shoulders.
Loosen the ligamants a little and strenthen the muscles your shoulder will move much more freely!

    Hope this helps

Shoulder grinding or popping is very common and normal. As we age the surface in our joints roughen causing the grinding. Just getting old bro
