Ha. I just typed out a lengthy confession, then deleted it. Anyhoodles, having my own difficulties with this at the moment...but being the weakling I am, I am talking myself into waiting the four weeks until I move to a new locale to drop the habit. Going to stay with my recovering-alcoholic mother for two weeks, then making a cross-country move after that. This will force me to cut off the "friends" that I've recently realized are just drinking buddies.

Good luck with everything, change of friends never did the trick for me, i always thought it would, and no matter where i went i was still an alcoholic unfortunately.

I break stuff, I know that. I know that going into things when I buy them and yet when I do stupid stuff like accidently sitting on my new tablet after it feel out off my backpack and onto the floor under my seat (in a padded case but it was hit by a chair leg) I still get really upset at having to waste money to replace it. The cost of the tablet plus an additional $125- in accidental damage insurance coverage that wasn't available for the original purchase. It's not even the money that's the issue, I feel guilty that I can just spend my way out of mistakes while so many people in this world can't even get enough to eat out of no fault of their own. I am fortunate and because of that I feel shame. I thank God I stopped doing harmful things of consequence and that I never seriously hurt anyone before I stopped.

Best of luck to you. Changing areas and people is a helpful thing. But the only way to get sober is to really want it at whatever the cost!

The most important thing is that you confessed to yourself. Stay strong in your mind and spirit and try to be there for your mom. You got this if you want it man. I had to isolate myself from the crowds I was running with for a while until I was able to have sober self control over my decision making. I guess its different for everyone but the situations seem to be the same.

Don't beat yourself up man. Fortune comes in many forms and you feel blessed that you have not brought serious harm upon yourself or to anyone else.

I read a great book a few months back and wonder if anyone else has read it.
It's called "The Secret", there was also a movie made. Pretty much the people whos quotes are in the book actually talking about their words of choice.
The Secret is a great book on how to be positive and draw good things into your life.
Figured I'd ask if anyones read it for their opinion. As well as anyone new to a program might find it very helpful as I did.

Just found this forum via google search. Glad I found it! Never actually came out and said I was alcoholic, but it was obvious. Stopped in January 2012 and committed to my 1st bodybuilding competition that June, went back to drinking some wine last Christmas 2012 and discovered that I indeed have NO off switch when it comes to alcohol. Gave it up entirely on New Years Eve and plan to stay away from it from now on.
Some say I've replaced one addiction for another with bodybuilding, but I don't feel that way. My life has improved 10 fold with the lack of drinking and "obsession" with the gym. Next competition in 5 weeks

When I do slip I feel like it is more out of wanting something to do. The sober life can be so boring sometimes, and when its friday night and I have a **** load of energy I feel like I need to get out and socialize which for me includes a few drinks.

I'm a new member of Bodybuilding.com with almost 6 months recovery under my belt. The more I peruse this site, the more I like it. This forum is a godsend for people in recovery. :-)
I've dealt with drug and alcohol addiction as well as clinical depression for over 30 years. Although I lost a lot of weight and started to get into shape a couple years ago, it wasn't until I checked my sorry ass into a rehab program that things started to come together positively. I look to others who've made dramatic transformations of themselves physically and mentally for inspiration.
Strength training is just a part of my recovery process, but it's an important one. Thank you for this ongoing thread.

It feels great knowing you can take your family to fun places and be accountable to those who need and depend on you. That's a HUGE reward! Being sober allows me to "be there" when I should.

Sometimes it feels like an exorcism. In a way, that's what it is. I relate that to your strength training as part of recovery. Exorcising those demons out of your system feels BEAST and much better than all that garbage collected from those nights/days that cant be remembered. AWESOME to have you in the thread!
