Thank you all for the replies and encouragement.
Blacksmith, I'm happy to hear you're not thinking of drinking with the problems at a new job.
As you said no job would be worse.
Also I know we all face difficulties in different ways. But thats what friends and others at meetings are there for is to help us make it through those tuff times.
Congrats on the job and staying on the right path.
It'll all pass and the lessons learned will help you deal with future challenges.

Great job to everyone and always remember to take it one day at a time. When I entered treatment I couldn't imaging even one day with out alcohol. The first year was the toughest but I always used my reasons for wanting to get sober to motivate me to stay sober one more day. Hard to believe that I'm coming up on 19 years!! Wow, God is good!! I wouldn't have made it another year if I hadn't quit. I was a MESS to say the least :-)
Rock on!!

Keep it simple, one day at a time man! Yesterday's struggles are in the past, keep it in today. Maybe hit an extra meeting or two, &/or extra time with your sponsor.
Be good!
Daily Reflection: Self Honesty
The deception of others is nearly always rooted in the deception of ourselves... When we are honest with another person, it confirms that we have been honest with ourselves and God."We Spartans are said to be descended from Hercules himself. Taught never to retreat, never to surrender. Taught that death in the battlefield in service to Sparta is the greatest glory he could achieve in his life. Spartans, the finest soldiers the world has ever known." ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ!!

We all struggle in some fashion.
For me, I turn my mess into a message.
AA says we trudge the road to happy destiny. Not skip merrily tra la la.
The thing is for me is that I have a lot to be accountable for. Wife, self, home, job, sponsor and sponcees, commitments of multiple variety.
Its easy to get caught up in the troubles of life.
But the key to that is count your blessings, not your problems.
I guess thats what they mean by an attitude of gratitude.
And whats also important is to realize, you are not alone in how you feel.
But dont let your feelings overcome you. Remember, you own your feelings, they dont own you.

JRT6 I see youre in my area and this weather we're having sure isn't spring like at all.
I know the rain amd gloominess can get to ya, but as cowboybiker mentioned the attitude of grattitude.
I find my gratuity list sure helps me through tuff times. And you know that list keeps getting longer and longer.
If you havent looked at yours or dont have one to add to starting one or adding to the one you have has helped me and others I know.
Hang in there friendhttp://www.iron-sanctuary.com/forums/index.php

That feel when you get pulled over at a sobriety checkpoint coming from an AA meeting

Hi guys my name is Matt, and I am an alcoholic. I recently just found out about this thread, so I decided to stop by and see what you're all about.
It's been 7 days since my last drink. I really want to stop drinking. I think I can. Well I know I can. I just need to learn where I can be social at besides bars. I tried using meetup.com, and I am going hiking with people tomorrow in the AM, but later in the evening Im pretty sure I'll get restless and want to go out. I would really appreciate any advice I did start going to meetings again a few weeks ago. However, at the meetings I don't mingle afterwards I just rush out of there to avoid someone telling me what I need to do. so yeah.........end of rant.Jesus Christ is Lord whether you accept Him or not.

I played guitar, bounced at clubs/bars and attended many after party's before I decided that it was time to move on to a more focused and meaningful lifestyle. I got back into art work and spent more time by myself at first. Don't get me wrong. I felt several times "the need" to take the edge off because of the reality and boredom going sober created at first. I feel that this is where your at.
If so, you will find that winning that daily battle will put you in a direction that will "in time" create an awesome feeling of accomplishment that can not be matched. You may also find that there are many other people who don't party like that who share common ground with you now that your sober. These people end up being the ones you were searching for in bars but never found.
An amazing social life awaits you but nothing worth having is ever easy to get. I spent many hours in the gym and studying when I decided to change directions in life. Time went by fast but felt slow at first. Get through this tough hump and you will see what Im talking about. Awesome work this past week man!

Cut yourself off from it completely(including people). Couldn't even hang out with my friend because I knew there was a possibility I would drink. Let other friends drive me and stay with me like all day so I wouldn't. Made a promise to my girlfriend. Only relapsed twice. It's possible guys, keep it up! Whatever you have to do, do it!

Welcome BlackJack. Not everyone is going to try to tell you what to do. If people are asking if you have a Big Book, Home Group, Sponsor, etc...well, that's good. That is one of the most successful ways on the planet to stay sober.
There are plenty of guys that are cool with just visiting with you and and hanging out. Even then it may seem like a million questions early on as people want to get to know you.
In the summers we played softball against other sober people, hiked, camped, fished, hung out on the river and I got back into hunting. In the winter it was watching movies at people's houses, sledding, skiing, etc.
You are right on the money with staying busy in the evening.Journal- One of the Ogres

In my opinion yes.
Your higher power to me is whatever keeps you from going back to the lifestyle you've left.
Each of us is different and each works their own program.
