4889 read your other post I was a lot like you! drinking like an alcoholic till I blacked/pass out the best way I found to control my addiction to alcohol and other drugs was to stop. I needed help to do it and found it in aa and na meetings. Now I like helping others when I can. I was 23 and have not used in over 25 years.

yea i have a problem, i just heard it takes around that amount of time for your body to get back to normal so thats my short term goal after the messy blackout night i had last friday
i just do not want to miss out on social gatherings and have it be a known issue by others, id rather be able to have a beer in my hand so its not an issue

I totally know how this feels!!! My first rehab was when I was 14 years old. My whole life I just wanted to be normal. I honestly get it. You don't want people to know you had/have a problem.
I just started saying that now that I'm training hard/lifting I would not put that sh!t in my body! And you know what, it's true. I'm not lying to them. they don't need to know I had/have a problem.~Beth

i just tell folks that i don't drink. if they press the issue, which has happened once or twice, i say i can't drink safely. can't say what i'd have done if i was 22. i was 41 when i put down the drink.
but i also don't have a problem telling anyone that i'm an alcoholic.
all i did by admitting i was an alcoholic was make it unanimous.

This is why I am very open about MY SOBRIETY and ALSO HAVE PERMISSION TO USE MY SPONSORS NAME OPENLY AS WELL. I coach my kids basketball, baseball and this fall will be taking on football coaching duties, every parent knows about ME from ME and i mean everything including that i was once a drug dealer. I DONT GIVE A RATS ASS WHAT ANYONE THINKS OF MY PAST I CANT CHANGE IT BUT I AM NOT THAT PERSON ANYMORE. Just about evry parent has either commended me on my sobriety or has asked HOW IT WORKS...interesting huh?Lots of alcoholics out there still that need our( meaning AA) help. Again this is just me but it works very well for me and my sponsor and his sponsor as well

Good on you admitting that you have a problem. It's a big step. As for what other's think: That is not your problem, drinking is your problem.
For me, it's easy, I just tell people that I don't drink. Some people become uncomfortable, some don't react, some assume it's because I live a healthy lifestyle. A guy at work actually apologized to me because he was talking about home brewing. I wanted to laugh! But he was trying to be nice, so I just said "no worries".
If you are uncomfortable being around people who are drinking and don't want to stand out, have a coke or a club soda. Nobody is going to know that it doesn't contain booze. But eventually someone is going to want to buy you a beer or a drink and you will have to deal with it.
So, how will you deal with it?Jesus is my lifting partner.

I relapsed hard yesterday guys. And the depression I am experiencing today is very harsh. I know it is time to get up and start over again. Partly I was curious to remember what it was like to drink. It just takes me to a dark and hurtful/painful place.

Well I hope you that you remember that and never forget it.
Had'nt heard from you in a while. been kinda worried that might happen.
They say relapse is part of recovery, but it doesnt have to be an option.
First thing is to stop beating yourself up over it. That causes guilt and shame which leads to more relapse.
I suggest you find a meeting. I know you believe in God and he believes in you. And hes forgiven you so you need to forgive yourself and keep moving forward.
This is only a stumbling block that you can turn into a stepping stone.
Turn your test into a testimony.
I believe in you Forge. Now believe in yourself.Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude. – Thomas Jefferson

You are so good with words. Been meaning to mention that about your posts. Today I am going to be extra kind and gentle with myself. Go outside and get some sun, pray, rent a movie, eat well and talk with my family if I can reach them.
I know what I need to do. Thanks. It definitely isn't the end of the world and it is another lesson about drinking and how it can't be my thing. If you are suffering from serious medical concerns please be sure to check with your doctor.
