    Unhappy summer travel'n issue

I have been lifting now for almost a year. I have showed great success over the months. I now have a major problem. I want to travel to the states to see my family as my father is ill. I really need to go. But I am so slfishly bad that I am having a hard time with the plane flights and the days it takes to get there and get situated. Basically I believe that I will not be able to workout for about a week. No lifting or cardio. This is with the jet lag involved as well. My question is, would it be wise for me to follow something like the Atkins diet so that I will not lose what I have accomplished. I am thinking to eat these kind of foods would be easier on the trip than the good clean diet I am currently doing now. Not to mention, the whole counting calories would not be so much of an issue to me beings I don't really like meat that much anyways. So I would not be eating allot... :-)

Any and all advice would really be greatful. I have been struggling with myself to figure out how I can do all this and still feel good about myself as well.

Why wouldn't you be able to follow your current eating plan while you're over there? Why would Atkins be easier? You can still exercise while you're on vacation; running is great cardio and you can do alot of exercises with bodyweight or resistance straps..

I can excercise once I get there. I also know that I will be able to eat my "clean diet" But if I take space available to fly, I may be stuck in limbo ( at the airport) for a few days. And then I also have to look at jet lag once I get there. I will be so tired from the flight and the time change. I know that a week is not that long in one idea, although I have been really focused and I am concerned I will be messed up and lose focus altogether and of course lose all that hard earned muscle.

I can understand about losing what you worked so hard to get. I worry about that every Christmas when I'm gone for a week; however, just rem you didn't get that muscle in a week and you won't lose it in a week either. As far as the airport, pack a small bag with some healthy foods and snacks like fruit or protein bars so you won't be tempted to live off of the crap at the airport vending machines..

I had actually considered packing some meals. I am just real unsure of my strength when I will be under so much stress. But of course as you say, I did not gain my muscle in a week and I cannot lose it in a week either....

I understand about the stress part, believe me. When I'm stressed out, I eat and eat and usually not good stuff

When I'm visiting my brother in New Mexico during the holidays and am stressed and thinking bout eating the bad stuff, I try to go off and do something to preoccupy myself; taking a walk around the neighborhood or just getting out the house itself seems to do the trick..

protien bars and stuff are real handy when traveling. I usually eat junk food when traveling and alot of times i don't pay attention to my diet. though there is no reason why you can't eat healthy, hotels should have lots of healthy meals on the menu, and you could do some simple exercises to maintain your body if you can't get to a gym.

and anyway its only a holiday, you will be home soon after, so enjoy it while your there.

    good luck.

    Wink

Thanx everybody. I think I will do my best to just stay focused. But If I am only messing up for a few days, it will be ok. It will just help me to focus on my workouts more while I am there. I will be there for around a month..... I know I will not take a month of in any way shape or form. But a week of good and bad will be as you say... a "holiday" Thanx again.
