that's what I thought they did. Americans think that 80% on the U of T system is the same as getting an 80% raw score... it isn't. A 90% raw score can be converted to 80% because of the average that they have to maintain. You can't compare it to american systems.

I've had the bell curve "lower" my grade just as much as I've had it raised because of it. If the class average is too high, you get marked down. For example, I've gotten 94% in a course and gotten a B+.

When I got to college I always heard horror stories of bell-curve grading however I've never had a class that grades like that at all.

No it really isn't, this is what's used at all Canadian Universities. Trust me, I live in Canada, and I have good friends in each university in Ontario, not to mention friends at McGill and UBC. This is the way it's done.

So how the hell would you get a 3.0 then? That would be a numerical score of like 60.

Yea, a lot of people say that. At McMaster it's different, an 85 is like a 3.7, but for comparable classes, their work is really easy.

An 80 is a 3.0 or 3.3 at U of A (if it's uncurved), depending on the course. But yeah a 90+ is usually an A, except for freak cases like the one I mentioned above.

    university of alberta.

good luck proving it. I have a syllabus right here for my sts class that clearly shows 90-100 as an A, 85-89 as an A-.

It's not the same for all schools.

Not all Universities will bell curve down as much. McMaster has a 12 point GPA system and when you convert an 85% there is like a 3.7, where as an 85 at U of T is a 4.0.

Here ya go guys, definitive proof. As you can see, U of T and U of A use the same system, just like most other universities in Canada.

dude you don't even know what that is. That's how omsas converts GPA from schools like U of A into percentages at U of T.

They are completely independent from U of A and they don't decide how percentage grades get converted into letter grades at the U of A.

I had a feeling you'd post that, but that isn't any sort of proof. It's something completely different.

They're equivalent though, what are you talking about? At the end of the day, an A+, AKA 90%+ is a 4.0 at both UofT and UofA.

a 90% at U of T is equivalent to a 4.0 at the U of A. But there's more to it than that. A 4.0 at the U of A, depending on the course, can be above or below 90%. It depends.

And in uncurved courses at the U of A an 80-85 is a B+. But then that B+ converts to 77-79 on the U of T scale. I'm not saying that it's easier to get a B+ at U of T. Because it's probably just as hard to get a 77-79 at U of T as it is to get an 80-85 at the U of A.

That thing you posted is how schools convert between each other, not how individual schools convert from raw percentage to GPA within their own school.

you mean me? we don't have the % to GPA conversion in our calendar since it's largely ambiguous. Almost every course is curved in order to get a certain distribution on the GPA scale. I posted the distribution above.
