ITT: Noobie Questions Answered in 1 line or less

It's that time of year again where every thread is a wall of text about things that don't matter, and are subsequently followed by dmacdonald's copy/paste thing that arms them with all the info that they need. Let's be honest, that's a lot of info to take in, and some basic questions still arise. In an attempt to show just how truly simple weight loss can be for the very large portion of the population, I'll try and answer noobie questions in one line or less.

NEW PEOPLE: strongly consider what you're going to ask because I'm answering in 1 line or less.

VETS: feel free to play along and help. (Note: if you should have been posting as a noobie 6 weeks ago you're not a vet because you lost 10lbs once).

Reps for those who play along and good questions. Let's see if anyone contributes and embraces the simplicity, or if they all believe they're special snowflakes.

    Go!

Ok, I'll try to play along:

    - What is the best way to calculate one's maintenance calories?

    - What is the most accurate method to find out one's body fat percentage?

    - Are there any fat-loss benefits in doing fasted state HIIT cardio, and how likely is it that such activity will burn muscle?

    - For an untrained individual wanting to lose fat, is there a point in doing weighted ab exercises while cutting? Would it cause the abs to start showing at a higher body fat later on?

    - How often should cheat days be incorporated, and how much above maintenance (if at all) should be consumed on those days?

    Thanks.

all the information is free, you just have to think about it and apply it to yourself.

I'd use moderately active as a starting point as IMO most people that have higher activity levels have more physical jobs.

Consistently monitor calories and the scale until the weight stops changing

    - Are there any fat-loss benefits in doing fasted state HIIT cardio, and how likely is it that such activity will burn muscle?

Neither should be a factor for the average person hitting the gym or whatnot

    - How often should cheat days be incorporated, and how much above maintenance (if at all) should be consumed on those days?

Aside from the benefits of a planned refeed for trained athletes, there is no reason to have to plan a day to overeat other than having an unhealthy relationship with food

    Thanks.

I'll take a different approach to this answer than above: if you're looking to figure out maintenance/deficit calories, using a calorie calculator is no better then a guess for a starting place, so you have to track calorie and scale weight

Nothing to do with the quality of questions. I was pointing out that just because they're bullet points doesn't change it from the wall of text everyone posts, which wasn't the point of this thread. That's why I answered every 2nd one.

Lulz. This forum, above probably all others on this site, seems to specialize in 'unique snowflakes,' posters who think that eating less/moving more on a consistent basis doesn't work for them due to some odd reasoning, some goofy philosophy they heard on the "dr" oz show, from some scammer's diet website, or a plain old lack of discipline.

Anyway, good on you for taking on this challenge----and it's gonna be a challenge to keep this thread going.

Sorry for the OT post in your thread. Please carry on.....................

The challenge is getting people to think it's simpler than they've been taught. I expect it to die out because if it's not complicated, expensive, impossible, related to a medical condition, etc. then people don't have easy excuses to quit. We'll see how it goes over the next few days.

Sure. A dude switching from a desk job to an active job is experiencing an increase in NEAT. Massive calorie burn difference.
