Introducing Myself
Hi everyone, I thought I should say Hello since I read this forum daily and will start posting.
I am a mom of three ages 5,4 and 2. I run and lift. I have run 5 marathons and 2 50k's over the past 3 years. Earlier this year I began training for a figure comp- I got down to 12% BF after about 6 weeks of lifting and dieting-- but I COULD NOT continue with the diet my trainer put me on-
I was eating high protiein, low fat and mod carbs. I was STARVING ALL THE TIME!, going to bed hungry...I just could not take the thought of 8 more weeks of that hell. So.... I decided not to do the competition, quit the diet and cont. lifting though not as heavy or as often. I began training for another marathon and was putting in about 50 miles a week and eating lots of carbs and sugar and basically feeling like crap. My BF% was going up and I was gaining weight. My 4 pack diappeared, I was moody and grumpy and angry that I was gaining weight with all that running...
In October I had had enough. I quit eating grains and sugar, and started eating low carb- between 35-75g a day. I quit running- I was just burnt out! and started lifting regularly again. I did NOT lower my calories and just ate when and what as long as it was low carb.
I am now eating a keto diet, 65%F, 30%P and 5%C. I am lifting 4 days a week and doing 1-2 days a week of 25min HIIT. I am also eating 500 cals below my maintenance to get my abs and triceps back in shape (thats where I gain the fat!) When my Abs were looking good I was about 13% BF. Now I am about 17%, so I would like to get back down there. I could also do 8 regular pull-ups no problem. Now I can do about 2 so another goal is to increase my pull-ups to 10 by next summer.
I feel great since I cut out carbs and will eat this way forever regardless if I was lifting or not. I have tons more energy, enthusiasm and am just in a better mood. Also, my skin looks great- no breakouts at all eating low carb.
The first two weeks going Very Low carb were hard- I had no energy, was moody and grumpy.. but now its a peice of cake.
I also cut out dairy and all artificial sweetners.... and that is just because I personally feel better eating this way.
This forum has a lot of great info-- I will be sticking around and posting some pics soon.
