I'm really of two minds about this. Most women don't realize how badly the average guy could f*** them up if he wanted to so they go around thinking they're badasses because guys back down from them all the time. You end up with women who abuse men because the men don't fight back, and then one day some guy snaps and it's all over.

On the other hand, I don't advocate men hitting women because they're so much stronger and can hurt them badly.

Honestly, if some chick is beating on some guy, thinking he won't retaliate, he should use enough force to stop her. Hit her back, but don't break her face.

On a side note...

A buddy of mine was stationed in Korea (airforce firefighter). His buddies take him out. He's a bit tipsy and doesn't realize they've taken him to a gay bar as a joke. He starts looking around and notices dudes are dancing with dudes. He panics and starts pushing people out of the way trying to get out of there.

On his way out some guy grabs his shoulder and pushes him. Like instinct he turns around and punches the guy in the face. All he hears come from the guy is a high pitched shriek. Turns out it wasn't a guy but a female taking hormones to look like a guy.

Well, since this is a serious question, laws concerning self defense make no gender distinction. If another person is attacking you, you have the right to use reasonable force to defend yourself. This does not mean if she slaps you, you can beat her unconcious with a chair, but you can hit back to prevent further assault.

It's sad, but your reaction is typical of most people, if there's a guy hitting a woman, then you're going to go to the defense/aid of the woman and ask questions later.

I'm not saying that you should go help the guy beat up a woman instead, I'm saying that both sides shouldn't be judged, which means in your case your first reaction shouldn't have been "I'm going to go kick that guys ass for slapping that woman," but it should have been "I need to go split them up, and then figure out what happened."

I'm only making this point because double standards are killing everything for us, which includes trying to get respect from guys.
