Pressure in Chest when working out

when my friend works out, he:
has some sort of pressure in the middle of his chest
and when he stretches back it makes a popping noise
    it hurts a little bit

    what could be causing this?

I asked if he was breathing properly during his workout and he said yes.

i got the same thing as your friend. everytime i stretch, usually in the morning, i have a small tension spot in the middle part of the sternum and it pops (like cracking fingers or neck). it happens everyday. i cannot answer your question but lets bump this! ^^^
