Some of that may also be due to the strength/size of the gears needed to handle the torque of the engine.
For example, usually rear wheel drive cars have larger engines so there may be extra inertia/frictional losses secondary to the fact the gears needed to handle the extra power need to be larger, etc

Whenever I see a performance version of a economy sedan on the road, I laugh and think its some kid from the misc. I know people that talk about how cool a STi is, or a Cobalt SS, but they never get one. Most people that buy cars looking for thrills in that price range go buy used s2000's and z4's. No matter how good it is, I couldn't spend my money on that kind of car, a sedan sports car. no one over over 25 thinks your cool.

Yeah because a Vette and a MS3 are in the same price range as a 21K car.
Why is it that when anyone brings up a car that people automatically start naming all these cars that are completely in a different league, different price range that are better? [I know I know, this is the Misc we are all Ballin CEOs that can afford any car]
Car threads always end up going off topic and always turn into a pissing contest.

i'm torn about the cobalt. it's cool that a US company is competing with the ricers and beating them. that type of car just isn't for me, not that i could afford one atm anyways. if i could and i wanted a car that size i'd probably go with a wrx, but if i wanted power i'd go with an american and rear wheel drive. a built, s/c'd v6 mustang would be great for the lulz as a sleeper.
