I think I'm addicted to peanut butter
Not really, but ever since I quit smoking on 9/1/08 I've developed a real taste for it. That may not sound wierd but heres the thing, I never ever liked it before I quit. Even as a kid I never ate the stuff, now I could eat a jar a day if I let myself. I don't want to believe it could have anything to do with not smoking but it just seems odd to me that now i love the stuff after all these years. Has anyone else ever experienced anything similar?

I don't think that's unusual. I remember back when I quit smoking I developed a taste for smoky bbq sauce, and hickory smoke flavored potato chips, and smoked herring, and smoked oysters, and smoked brisket, and smoked anything...
Never could figure out why

if it makes you feel more normal, I have serious issues with peanut butter. I think its because i under eat, but a jar a day is pretty common here. I don't have any other addictions besides caffeine and posing in the mirror...lol

maybe because you are tasting food better now that you quit, you love it even more(??)
i'm right there with you. instead of the real deal i eat pb2, which is peanut dust that you recon with water or a bit of oil/water mix for more "body." only 52 calories for two tablespoons and you can add it to protein drinks and other stuff. i eat a sandwich every day made with it. i'm trying to lose weight though, you may not be so eating the real deal could be ok for you.

well actually it is the real thing - it's powdered peanuts leftover from the oilmaking process, but not "real" in the sense that it's powdered and almost fat free. it comes in only smooth (obviously, lol) and it tastes peanutty just not at all oily. that is why i add a tsp of oil + 2 tsp water into 2 tbsp pb2 so that you get a bit of fat in it, otherwise it's like 85% fat free.
great for when you are trying to lose weight though, and have a craving. excellent on apples and anything else you'd use regular pb. they now have a new chocolate flavor out too.

first of all congrats for quitting.
Sorry if no one asked for the science, but... we taste with our nerves in our nares and now that they are not inflammed from hot smoke, they work a lot better. You just uncovered that lifelong lust for peanut butter we all seem to have. When I diagnose a kid with peanut allergy the first thing I think of is poor kid- no pb and j, no peanut butter and crackers or anything. Hell, I made it through med school on pb and j, it is now natural pb and sugar free jam on whoe wheat, but still is a cure for many things. I think I'll go have one now

I've got a couple of relatives that quit. They told me they started having crazy food cravings when they kicked the habit.

Thanks for all the reply's everyone. I guess it does make sense that after giving up something that alters the way food tastes my likes/dislike can change.
reached my rep limit for today but they will be sent to all that helped!

Congratulations on quitting smoking. I quit puffing about 10 years ago and it was great for my taste buds.
I agree with the other posts about your taste buds working better now.
Your new found pb love might remain a mystery but there could be worse foods to be addicted to.
(such as my current addiction to Tim Tams) LOL

Very Good pre-workout stuff!

I don't have a f'king problem, I can quit anytime I like, who the hell are you my mother?! I don't eat anymore peanut butter than my friends! Hell, a know a lot of guys who eat more peanut butter than me, plus it is legal so it can't be "that bad" for you. Who cares if my boss says it is interfering with my work, she is just jealous, and my wife, she is just having some mood swings, hell all of you just leave me the f'k alone!!!!!!!
