    Alternative?

You may want to update your poll to include the Ironmasters. I looked at both the Powerblocks and the Ironmasters. There was nothing wrong with the blocks. I just liked the design and feel of the Ironmasters better. They are more like a traditional dumbbell. The Selecttechs are junk. But, if you are set on one of the two in your poll, Powerblocks are the way to go.

If you're going to get Ironmasters you might as well just get Olympic DB's with collars. Takes way too long to change weight on Ironmasters which defeats the whole purpose of them in my opinion.

I originally bought Bowflex and returned them so I could buy the PowerBlocks. My one regret now is getting the Sport Block 5.0s which only go to 50lbs. At the time it was more than enough, but now I need more weight.

What do you consider "way too long"? I can change all 4 sides of both dumbbells in about 1 minute. I can't imagine you can change Oly bars much quicker. Now, if you have multiple bars set up, I get your point. But apples to apples, I don't think there would be much of a difference.

Way too long is one minute. I had them. It didn't make sense to me because I could change weight on Oly's in the same amount of time. I'm not saving room with them either because I already have all of the Oly plates I need anyways. The only convenience of adjustables, in my opinion, is the ability to change weight fast. You can't do that with Ironmasters. They're built like tanks and are great for what they are, but just not worth it in my opinion.

A minute beats the hell out of spinlock DBs, which take me about a minute just to change one. I guess if you have olympic DBs and some LockJaw collars it would be a lot quicker, but spinlocks suck ass for speed.

I just got the ironmasters and they can be changed in well under a minute. Timed a couple changes and 45lb down to 25lb took 43 seconds. 25lbs up to 35lbs took 37 seconds. (time for changing both dbs going)

I'm not even used to them yet and wasn't trying for a fast time, so I'm sure with a bit of practice you could change in 30seconds or less. I don't think you could change olympics that fast. The key is to use one hand for each side, so you are changing both sides of the db at the same time.

I almost went olympics, but I like to be able to rest the face of the dbs on my leg which wouldn't work too well with the bar.

Why does it need to be lightining fast? Are you planning to whack off while you're resting or something? My rest time is 90 secs. and can't see a better reason to keep myself busy while changing out plates. You're still resting and the rest-time flies by.
I also had both the powerblocks 5 to 85lb and the ironmasters at one time. I picked up the blocks for an awesome deal of $200. After trying both, I didn't see the point of very fast changes, since I had useless time anyway. I got rid of the blocks and made money also by selling them for $350. I want to get the 120lb kit soon though.

Ever hear of Dropsets? What about Supersets? There are many reasons for it. I stated that this was only my opinion about the product. Quick weight changes are the only benefit, in my opinion, with adjustable Dumbbells. I prefer Oly's with clips due to the price and no difference in convenience to me.

Ironmasters are far superior to powerblocks and bowflex

Ironmasters are like tanks, and can be dropped and not be hurt
They feel and perform just like a regular dumbell

If you drop your powerblocks, good luck, cuz they will probably break
I have dropped a 95 lb ironmaster dumbell 4' onto the kitchen floor, and they were fine.
I would hate to think I had powerblocks when that happened.

And the weird cage like structure you put your hand into on powerblocks is unnatural

It takes like a minute to change ironmasters, and if you can't spare a minute, then you must not be lifting heavy weights...even with light weight, a minute of rest is no big deal.

    my 15 cents

Takes same amount of time and Ironmasters are more like real db's.

I toyed with the Olympic dumbbell handle idea but it's really not practical. They slide around, the handles are nasty, the weights are a pain... Ironmaster is really far superior if you can afford it.
