pulled a muscle in my back (taking forever to heal)

i strained/pulled a muscle in my back about three weeks ago (roughly) and i took off a week from my four day split (this past week) because it wasn't healing properly because i kept working out... and it's still not 100% normal. when i sleep wrong i can rehurt it a bit where it's a bit sore when i wake up, like when i move my neck a certain way, i can feel it... no no it's not my neck, it's in my back. anyways... i need it to heal so i can get back onto my routine, its' frustrating me that i can't get to workout!! any ideas how long a strained muscle in your back should take to recover?

im going through the same thing right now. except it's been three months instead of three weeks. sucks though huh?

i tried to train through it like you do and made it take forever to heal.

i just 2 weeks off from training it really didnt get that much better, and it never hurts when i lift,

so im thinking of just saying **** it and keep lifting but being careful of course.

now that i think about it, it's been more like 5 weeks...if my memory serves me right, it happened on tuesday nov 11th while i was doing db flyes (man that was frustrating)...i could barely move the rest of the day... it got better by each day, but never really has gone away completely.. and im afraid if i continue to work out, especially my back, it's never going to heal all the way. im thinking i should see the doctor about it. ive pulled muscles in my back in the past and it seems like it has never taken this long to heal, maybe a few days...with maybe a week being the longest i can remember. i think i keep rehurting it somehow.

    rhb,

(I just responded to someone else's similar posting, but...) I have the exact same problem. Just as you describe it. Always frustrated me that merely sleeping wrong could re-aggravate it for one or two days. But so can, say, doing a push-up or turning my head too quickly. Something about the supporting/stabilizing nature of the muscle in that area that keeps getting tweaked.

I tried both the take 2 weeks off from everything approach and, when that didn't work much, the very light strengthening exercises approach. But after last night's re-aggravation, I scheduled a doctor's appointment for tomorrow morning. I wish I were more optimistic about what he'll say.

I would see a good chiropractor that has experience treating people who work out. There is probably an underlying reason (likely structural) that the muscle is not healing and is (I'm guessing) being slightly reinjured.
