Is there any way to be a trainer and not be certified??

I just don't have the money to get certified. I know all the ins and outs and everything but I need to get certified. GGRR!! Help anyone?? I work as a fitness coach at a local gym but I would love to be a trainer.

Most commercial gyms have trainers, with no certs. It's normal. Some commercial gyms even have in-house certs, just so the trainers can be seen as qualified professionals.

Ask your gym about in-house certs if they have any

If you can get one of the major chains to hire you without a cert and most will, they will certify you in-house and usually require you to get the big certifications normally N.A.S.M. within 6mos to a year. They get a national account discount so it will be cheaper almost 1/2 off to get the cert through the gym as opposed to getting it on your own.

CertificationCosts

DZ: WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY! A few yrs back when I started I freelanced: training 5-7 people at 4 gyms. I understand that may be a bit easier here in NYC than rural PA. Chains r good 4 sponsoring (I hear). I started another masters in Physical Therapy as a result of inner insecurities though I have NEVER in 3 yrs been asked if I am certified. 4 that you could consider student loans. I do concur with the other shares. It can be done on the cheap. HOWEVER the REAL cert w/ ISAA costs and is really all that carries any weight. It does boil down to the gym's insurance. If you buy your own, then that circumvents the cert necessity. On the other hand insurance costs more than certification. GLuck!!!
I know you won't quit trying 2 find a system glitch.

^^^^^ Insurance is very important.....working at a gym you would most likely fall under their insurance provider but if your independent you would need your own and from what i know they all require a cert.....don't train without insurance if someone gets hurt you could possibly lose everything
