Disregarding traffic violations, I have still seen more negative than positive experiences with the police posted in this thread. We are talking about negative personal experiences here where the victim has done nothing wrong, not the public's perception of the police in general.

exactly. are there bad cops? sure. do we agree with them? no.

there are bad people that get thru the cracks in every profession, you just remmber the negative over the positives.

It's really a department by department thing, and even then it's still a cop by cop thing. There are police forces where the culture is totally corrupt, and then there are some that are generally respectable. Just because the force in Timbuktoo is overrun with power hungry bullies doesn't mean that the force in Timbukthree will be.

Even so, the story sounds far fetched, and your cousin should have attempted to get names and badge numbers and names of the paramedics as witnesses.

This past Saturday my cousin went out to the bar with some cousins from the other side of his family and a couple of his friends. They were parked in a parking garage and when they went back to the car, two people from the country of Puerto Rico mugged him. When his friends and cousins tried to get out of the car to help him, they pulled a gun on them and made them sit in the car while they beat the crap out of my cousin so bad that he has to get facial reconstructive surgery and may not be able to see out of one of his eyes.

Anyways, they went to take him to the hospital and when they got to the exit of the parking garage, there was an ambulance and two cops already there by coincidence. After they got my cousin into the ambulance, they noticed that the car in line RIGHT BEHIND THE AMBULANCE was the two guys who mugged him. When my cousin's friends and relatives told the police, who were right there with them, THEY JUST LAUGHED AT THEM AND DIDN'T DO SH!T.

I will never trust a police officer ever again in my life. The only people they 'protect and serve' are themselves, government officials, and private/public establishments. They don't give a FUKC about us.

I get attitude from coppers all the time. (As a side note, do you know why I call them copper? It's because I can't get any change out of them. )

Last April I went for a run in the morning. I didn't get far from my home when a car pulls up behind me and sounds its horn. A copper gets out and asks me what I'm doing, who I am, where I live, and why I'm wearing a stocking cap & gloves & sunglass (duh! It's barely spring!). After a pointless conversation, he releases me and I continue my run. Not ten minutes later, I am met in the street by TWO coppers, looking for someone wearing a dark hat and gloves. I tell them I've already been asked, but they demand I repeat the information. Then they check me for weapons and drugs. One manlet gets in my face and tells me I need to go home, then speeds out of there. As soon as I get home, these same copper cars pass me and stop on sight. I expected more harassment but they were stopping for a squirrel crossing the road. I haven't run outdoors since.

Your 100% right, however there is a big difference between complaint and bashing. When you get flamed by someone who is pissed they were caught breaking the law and want to flame the **** out of you for catching them, thats rediculous. Not all police are good there is a small percentage that are **** heads, and that small percentage make it look bad for the ones who actually do thier jobs.

A lot of police officers do not deal with "absolute scum".

My frat brother was at a bar with a fake ID. He's notoriously bad with luck. Walks out of the bar, a cop confronts him. This kid is blackout drunk. He doesn't even acknowledge what the cop is saying.

What should a good cop do? Grab him and throw him in the police car to prevent causing danger to him/others.

What does the cop do? As my buddy stumbles backwards, the cop mistakes him for "resisting arrest" and beats him with a flashlight. One hard smack to the head lands him on the pavement with a cracked skull. Blood everywhere. He ended up in ER.

This cop should be thrown in jail. This situation could have been easily avoided. Now he's going through the whole court process with police brutality.

Like I said, there's good cops and bad cops. Unfortunately all my experiences with them are bad.
