training help
hey , ive been training for about 6.5 monthe now first 4 months wasting my time with universial machines , till i finally moved to barbell training ,anyway ive been doing linear weight 5x5 for the last 2.5 months with a little slow down in the middle of the 2.5 for 1 month.
my workout is ,
workout A
squat 5x5
bench 5x5
deadlift 5x5
incline bench 3x5
dips 3x10
push ups 5x10
abs abd lower back extensions 5x10
workout B
squat 5x5
standing press 5x5
cleans 5x5
pendlay rows 5x5
pull ups 3x5
abs 5x10
every once and a while i through in arms
questions is , after reading rippetoes starting strength i think im doing it all wrong ripptoes is 3x5 not to mention id guess im still a beginer traine maybe not , but im new to barbell , should i lower the tempo and drop back to a 3x5 with heavier weight , move the pendlay rows to workout A and follow this routine from now on out progressing as staring strength suggests?
"Workout 1
Squats = 3 x 5
Bench = 3 x 5
Deadlift = 1 x 5
Dips = 3 sets
Pendlay rows = 3 x 5
Abs = 3 sets
Workout 2
Squats = 3 x 5
Overhead press = 3 x 5
Power clean = 3 x 5
Pullups = 3 sets
Abs = 3 sets
This is a slightly more advanced version, and is not for "novice consumption". Tad_T is/was an experienced individual so he was able to incorporate this into his training plan successfully."
what do u guys with some years under the bar suggest?

Ripptoe's guide is great for beginners. I actually did this for a few months after I was 6 or so months into lifting. If you're looking for a different routine, check out the Tri-phase training series on BB. I'm about to start doing this and it seems pretty cool to me.
What ever workout routine you do, the most important thing is to concentrate on PERFECT form. Practice does not make perfect. Perfect Practice makes Perfect. Get your muscles to memorize the correct form. Any routine will work if you stick with it and have the correct diet for your goals.

Seems like way too many lifts. Simplicity > over complication.

i know my first work out was dirrived from random threads , i realized it was too much after reading starting strength, but since ive been over doing it and have been straining my body for over 6 months should i not follow a more intermediate routine?
or just drop what im doing and start from scratch with rippetoes ss word for word ? untill progression stops? then go from there?
oh and i have actually droped weight in all my lifts to work on forum , which all still need work
edit: ive decided to train strength/power with hopes of competive pl one day, we'll see? just so you guys know where im at im not bodybuilding for asthetics.

i take it you read the book, because in the sticky there is alot of bullsh*t added. making it hard to tell whats ss and whats variations that some joeblow came up with, so dont bother posting ...... its not at all usefull.
qoute from the sticky;
In Practical Programming, due out the 1st or 2nd week of December 2006, Rippetoe recommends that a set/rep scheme of 5x3 (5 sets, 3 reps, instead of 3 sets, 5 reps) can be performed on the power clean, and is possibly advantageous, especially once power clean technique improves.
so is it advantageous ? id say my clean is decient and im used to doing 5x5?
and i just notice rippetoe dosent endorse the pendlay rows mixed in the routine , my bad

The book is 30 bucks and will answer all of these questions in great detail with no confusing input from the internet. **** man. If you are serious about doing this program buy the f@8king book and get to work.

i know theres guys on this site that can give valuable information based on my training circumstances ( stated above ) , i have no acess to a personal trainer, i train alone , teach myself and from what i understand if i take a leap back in my traing going from 5x5 with accessorys to the basic 3x5 am i not slowing progression?
it would be very simple if i hadent been traing like i have for 6 months id start ss and it would be a hard workout , but ss is gonna feel like a walk in the park.
see where im coming from?

i see...we'll just have to work on that whole space-time continumn and get chokenpuke's join date to retrograde a few years, and we'll also have to get him mod-repped a couple times so that ignorant people such as yourself (ignorant said with no malice, you've said yourself that you don't know what you're doing); will take his word at face value instead of having to have several others repeat it.

thats the ****ty thing about the internet, now isint it?
you would think all you guys with 100s of post would understand but, if you look at my reputation its proof you dont.
isiak from you bodyspace , pictures and join date i can come to a assumption that u actually train and might have a clue what your talking about, you post alone did prove anything 4 post saying the same comfirimed me to start from scratch and give in to chokeenpuke and buy the book , as a new poster i laugh at the fact to neg rep me i have nothing to go by but bodyspace rep power and join date i dont know you , or have even read any of your previous posts so to neg me and say this " i said nothing different from chokenpuke and his advice is just as sound as mine, regardless of bodyspace, reps, or join date." is not needed , now thanks to you it will be even harded for me to get info off this site since it seems to be a trend to look down on people in the red.
peace

also:
why didn't you listen to CJ? three people said the same thing.
your reason for taking mine holds little water.

The "****ty" thing about the internet is that people try to use it to circumvent their laziness.

On the contrary, the fact that you are here after researching is a perfect example of your piss-poor ability to do research. When researching it is often a wise idea to look for things which contain accurate information about the subject you are researching. In this example you were looking for infromation on a strength training program which is known as Starting Strength. If you knew there was a book which shares this title, would it not seem logical to start there?
Oh and you're welcome.

lol k man , good point , except i learned there was a book from the sticky and figured the sticky would not be a sticky if it was missinforming people? maybe the mod should delete that one and just have a link to buy the book it would have saved all this bull we got going on in this post
which should be locked by the way now thats its way off topic
