    Is Hydrolyzed Protein Safe?

    I was reading this article:

    http://www.wddty.com/033638003692696...e-disease.html

It scared me because it mentions hydrolyzed protein as being a health hazard.
How hydrolyzed protein is a form of MSG which is a excitotoxin.

I use Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey which boasts about its Hydrolyzed Protein right on top of the lid.

I'm scared about this -can someone provide some more info regarding this?

    Thanks

You know, we had this discussion before and I believe in10city had a great response to this (I think). THIS was the link that was brought up. I can't find the thread but I remember this from one of the protein labels:

    Q. Isn't hydrolyzed protein monosodium glutamate (MSG)? I heard that whey is essentially MSG.

Both of these statements are false. MSG is manufactured by fermentation of a carbohydrate feed stock. MSG is not found in whey, nor is it made from whey.

I'll PM in10city and get back to you on this. But I think the general consensus was either it was false or that the amount is so minuscule that the health risks are irrelevent--unless you are severely allergic to MSG.
think of how stupid the average person is and then realize that half of them are dumber than that

Yeah... different things... Glutamate is commonly found in protein containing foods any how. Also keep in mind that the the amount of WPH in ON's is small in comparison and the percentage of it being a precursor makes it even a smaller amount.

    http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~lrd/msg.html
"Hydrolyzed proteins, or protein hydrolysates, are acid- treated or enzymatically treated proteins from certain foods. They contain salts of free amino acids, such as glutamate, at levels of 5 to 20 percent. Hydrolyzed proteins are used in the same manner as MSG in many foods, such as canned vegetables, soups, and processed meats. "

ok thanks for the info. - So in your opinion, hydrolyzed protein is safe?
And what about regular protein powders that don't mention Hydrolyzed? Would those be better?

makes me sick to the point that I puke even at small doses. For example, I love the ingredient profile for IntrAbolic but makes me sick when I drink it during a workout.
It's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward, that's how winning is done

I'm just wondering if I'd be better off buying regular protein powder. What makes hydrolyzed protein so great anyways?
