Going insane-Muscle twitch

I don't know if this is the right area but I'll post the question here anyway.

On and off for the past week I have had this incessant twitch in the mid lateral head of my left Delt. It is beginning to drive my crazy.

I know that muscular fasciculation can be caused by low magnesium, but I eat 1 large banana pre-work out and half a cup of almonds a day so obviously magnesium isn't a problem.

Has any body else experienced this and any tips of making it stop?

ANy help is greatly appreciated.

Had an intermittent twitching tricep a month or so ago. It went away on its own after a short time all I did was rest and drink lots of water. It's probably not ALS.

I agree... Drink water...

Caffeine can do that too...

I get them often but thats bc I drink a lot of caffeine and if I drink too much, I get them....

But dehydration is the most likely cause...

Thanks for your help guys.

I'm chugging 6 litres of water a day at the moment and I've just cut down to 1 strong coffee a day from 6. So I'm stumped. I've had them before but never this constant.

Well, there could be other causes but dehydration is the most common.

Overworking a muscle, lack of sleep, etc can also cause it....

I would guess that Ca/K/Na imbalances, specially with Na, can cause it.

A diet high in Na could cause it... That would be my guess.... Its basically the same thing as dehydration...

I would concur, but my current diet is low sodium, high potasium (due to large quantities of Water drunk) and I have a fairly balanced Calcium intake. 3 cups of milk per day plus cheese on the weekends.

Calcium is pretty well regulated as a nutrient, so I was more thinking of serum imbalances...

However, I do not understand why you say your diet is low in sodium but high in potassium (due to water intake??). ????

PD Here is some additional info on muscle twitching and its causes (simple google): http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/e...cle/003296.htm

High to excessive water intake causes potasium depletion where potasium and fibre intake is average. 6-8 litres of water daily = need to ensure high potasium.

Consume less water then, and don't worry about the K+
