    How often do you work your abs?

    I'm wondering how foten everybody works their abs. I have heard of people working their abs everyday before. Sorry if this is a noob question but shouldn't you let your abs rest or is it okay to work them everyday? If every day sounds bad, is every other day good?

    i work them every other (when im not lazy) unless they still sore, then i take an extra rest day.

    FYI... Abs are a very large muscle group... bicep is a small muscle, abs cover you entire ABdomen... soo... ya...

    Abs are endurance muscles, you can work them everyday.

    That being said, I only do few sets a week for abs. I absolutely despise working abs, even though I know strong core is needed for big deadlift/squat.

    Never work abs, they are huge though, my heavy deadlifts and squats always seem to work them more then enough, although I am going to start working them once or twice a week in the hopes of Upping my deadlift.

    personally once a week, but could do 2x a week if I cared about abs

    I'm not worried about abs during the winter. Just do the occaisional core workout to help with my compound lifts other than that nothing else really.

    It is not that you are really going to see them while bulking.
    Maybe when I start cutting (which will take a while) I increase it, but for now this is plenty.

    For me I do it about 4 times a week.
    On Mondays I do exercises that focus more on the lower abs and than Tuesday more the obliques and Wednesday more of the upper abs and than on Friday I do one exercise for all 3....

    Seems to be working but I just gotta loose a little weight to see the real effects but there still visible and progress is coming.

    It depends on the results you want just like anything else. In response to the posts above this one as well as the original question, this is what I have to say.

    Abs is a small muscle group, it is large on the surface but thin. When you measure a muscle group by weight it is one of the smallest, with glutes/hamstrings/quads being the biggest.

    Lifters will typically contend that the smaller the muscle group the more often it can be worked due to the makeup of fast-twitch versus slow-twitch fibers. For instance legs can't be worked as often as abs due to the composition and the amount of strain it puts on your body to do a heavy leg day.

    Another interesting thing in these posts is when people say they don't work abs during bulking phases or in the winter time. Why would you stop training a muscle group just because it will be tucked away? That's like saying 'I just got a job where I have to wear pants, so I'm not doing legs anymore'. Furthermore the point of a bulking phase is that you up your calories so you can facilitate the building of muscle. Why would you only work abs when you are in a calorie deficit for a cutting phase?
