Picking up Guy at Gym with Notecard

I know it sounds kinda dumb/childish/weird but I don't know how else to talk to guy when he wears headphones all the time.

Backstory: We have been going to the gym at the same time everyday for the past several weeks. I am fairly confident that he has noticed me since we smile at each other and briefly exchanged a few words on one occasion.

I was thinking that when I am leaving the gym one day, I will give him a folded notecard that says "Let's get drinks some time" and then sign it with my name and phone number.

Thoughts?? Should I go for it?

I had a Japanese girl do this to me on the train after smiling to each other every morning for a couple weeks. But then again she didn't speak the language (English) incredibly well and it was like a 20 second timeframe.


What you propose could work, but I'm pretty sure if you go up to him between a set, smile, and pause like you want to say something, he'll take his headphones out. If not, start to say something and then he'll definitely do it. I think you're concerned about the akwardness of initiating. Trying to hand off the card in a "cool" manner without fumbling will be more difficult than it may initially seem. Keep it in your pocket in case he's REALLY out of it, but otherwise just throw it out there. "Hey, I think you're really cute, would you like to get a drink together sometime, here's my number I wrote down, my name, my home address, and favorite desserts." Don't be afraid of rejection - if he's single, he'll at the very least g on one date.

I had two girls here give me cards / notes to initiate conversation. Both were at the train station and in passing. The first one I never saw again because it happened so fast, had NO idea what she looked like. Second one, we hung out a couple times, it was nice, but ultimately it wasn't going anywhere, stayed friends.



Both cases, after getting the note, I stopped read it, then was pretty pumped they wrote me the note. Takes a lot of guts to initiate for a person, and women hardly ever do it. The guy will respect you regardless of how you go about initiating - assuming you aren't falling all over him - then he might just aroused (not the best way to initiate in the major scheme though). Be aware if you give him a note, he may try and catch your attention before you escape. Include in the note something like you didn't want to interrupt his workout / focus, so it doesn't seem like you're just too shy. I still think talking is the best way to go about it, but any initiation is appreciated from a man's perspective. Good luck - and I'll see you later :-P.

Considering I met my last ex in the gym, I can give you some feedback on this. The gym can be a super awkward place to meet/ask people out. Chances are if he's casually spoken with you prior, there's some level of interest. Absolutely do not be afraid to approach him while his headphones are on. Just make sure it's during an appropriate time. ie: Resting between sets. I know I would personally, and have recently, stopped and taken my headphones off when I girl talked to me.

Honestly, the cute notecard thing you can get away with. Girls can do that. Guys just look like a creeper.

I've heard from multiple girls, including my ex, that waiting for a guy they like to ask them out in the gym is SUPER frustrating. So I feel your pain. If it's any help, here's how it went with my ex:

- First started convo with her through a friend. My friend was talking with her, I made my way into the convo
- Then started on a basis of saying hello every time I saw her
- We'd catch each other looking back and forth
- Then I moved onto casual convo. Asking how her weekend was, how her day was, etc.
- Finally grew a pair and asked her out for coffee. My voice cracked as I did it. Pretty funny lol
- She said yes

One thing I do want to stress: Don't make yourself out to be a workout buddy. That is something i made sure i did NOT do with my ex. A lot of guys tried to get there way in with her that way. I made it clear from the beginning, I'm interested in you as a potential GF, not a workout partner.

Aaah, come on good cookie , you're much too harsh with her and every guy who would like to pick up this nice, classy strategy now. Before he (or she) overthinks this and doesn't do anything, a simple notecard for her (him) is more then enough to establish first contact in a room that both frequent very often and is maybe crowded with people standing nearby on top of that. It's a very privat, subtle approach.
